## **Report of the Trustees for the year ending 31[st] December 2018** 

The Trustees of the Disabled Drivers’ Association (Northern Ireland)  present their annual report and audited accounts for the year ended 31[st] December, 2018, and confirm that they comply with the Charities Act 2011, the trust deed and the Charities SORP (FRS 182). 

## **Our Aims** 

The Disabled Drivers’ Association is a self help organization run FOR disabled people BY disabled people and aims to concerns itself with the mobility needs of our members. 

## **Our Objectives:** 

The object of the charity is to offer help, advice, support and information to encourage people with disabilities in Northern Ireland to have greater independence through enhanced mobility. 

## **Review of activities and achievements :** 

DDA(NI) has no paid staff, receive no financial support from our parent charity in England and totally relies on local volunteers to provide our services to our membership by – 

- (a) Meeting twice a week at our premises in Duncrue Street. Although not in an ideal site the premises have been adapted for our needs with good parking, disabled toilets and easy access. 

   - (i) On Tuesdays we meet in the afternoon and after a film show or a session from a trainer from Disability Sports we send out for a take-away.  The meeting ends with a game of bingo with time for members to exchange information before heading home around 7p.m. 

   - (ii) Friday is our games night where our members enjoying a game of pool and bingo with a cup of tea. 

- (b) Once a month we have a special outing or talk 

- **(c)** Sending out a newsletter to our members 

- **(d)** Providing a website site www.ddani.co.uk and on facebook. 

- **(e)** Liaising with local and government bodies on mutual issues 



## **February** 

We sent out our Spring magazine at the end of February to 400 members.  It was also posted on our website – ddani.co.uk. 

## **March** 

Our AGM was held in 17[th] March and although the attendance was small we still enjoyed a cup of tea and sandwiches after the work of the meeting had finished. 

Our Annual Dinner was changed this year to High Tea to allow for our “out of town” members to attend and leave earlier.  It was held on 24[th] March at Corr’s Corner Hotel, 315 Ballyclare Road, Newtownabbey.  It had been a success and although we had lost a few members because of the change of time we had also gained a few.  It was great to see many old members attending this event.    A ballot was organized with prizes donated by our Committee. 

## **April** 

Tuesday, 11[th] April saw our first trip out and we went to the Ulster Transport Museum, at Cultra.  It was interesting to see how transport had evolved and in particular to see old invalid carriages a few of our members had driven.  Afterwards we enjoyed a meal at the Cultra Inn. 

## **May/June/July** 

Terry Conroy from Disability Sports is now attends our Tuesday club day every month where we sample different sports and practice chair dancing. Our events are published on facebook as well as our website. 

## **August** 

A warm August day was the perfect setting to our trip to the Ravine in Botanic.  Afterwards we had a short visit to the Ulster Museum with the promise we will be back. 

## **September** 

Aviation was the name of the game when we visited the Ulster Aviation Museum at the Maze on Tuesday, 18[th] September.  It was fascinating and we all marveled at the bravery of the old flying men. 



## **October** 

It was a cold day when our President had arranged a trip to St. Anne’s Cathedral where we enjoyed the tranquility of the Cathedral and learned its military background. 

## **November** 

We received some sponsorship for our Winter Newsletter, which was circulated to over 600 members and online members. 

## **December** 

Our Christmas party in Duncrue Street was on 18[th] December and enjoyed by all before we closed for the Christmas break.  Our Annual Ballot raised over £800 for funds.
