Achlevom&nts and performanca
The vlslon of Holy Cross Ardoyne Trust Is to serve the people and communitles of North Belfast, in
particular, the Holy Cross parish community and the people ol the Ardoyne and Shankill areas, wlth a
wider outreach to other groups and agencles across Belfast and th8 Mcrth.
Hoty CrcssArdoyne Trusys primary focus Is Gurrently the support ol Houben Centre, which wasformerly
the old parlsh hall of Holy Cross. The Trust und8rtook to fund the renovation of the hall into a Centre for
the area 2nd whlch opened In 2015,
The key functions of the Houben Centre £re as:
' the parlsh centre for Holy Cross parish
' a social and cross-community centre - in seNice of peace and r8conciliation
The focus on peac& and reconciliation has been a prlmary characteristic for the Centre, and for which it
has gained renown locally, nationally and intemationally.
Desplte the long shadow of the pandemlc, In 2023 the Centre 8tt8ined full operational capacty, Its
attracting tenants for the lettable Dfficelfloor spaces and the kltchenlcafé provislon. Regrettably, the
impscl of COVI D on the hospltallty sector visited the Centre, resulting in the closure of the café provision.
In place of the café provision, plans were put in motion to create a rneeting f8cility, off8rlng frlendly
amblence, hospitality and light refreshments.
There continues to be many challenges, politiC81, so¢lal and economic, impacting on the environs. The
Trust believes that, through the support of the Houben C8ntre, it can provide a unique contrlbullon In
th8 task of co-creatlng a foundation for a just. lolerant, and peaceful society. The Trust, through the
Houben Centre, continues to work in ¢ollaboratlon wlth local cros3 community agencies, providers and
groups for the betterment Df the peopl? of Ardoyne and neighbouring disadvantaged areas In North
Belfast.
Financial review
During the year to 31st December 2023 the Trust has received incorne from rentlng facilities and room
hire totalling £50,449 (2022: £53,977). The Trust also received £1,000 donation during the year.
other direct charitable expenditure incurred in 2023 in ralation to hirlng of fa¢ililies were £7,375 wsges

costs (2022.. £2,578}. Other administration expenditure during 2023 was £2,110 {2022: £1,824). The
Trust's total expenditure during the year to 31st December2023 was £58,708 (2022.. £63,385>
The net deficit for the year to 31st December 2023 was £7,259 (2D22: deficit £9,108), see page S for
breakdown.
As at 318t December 2023 the total fund balance is £3,104 (2022.. £10,363). This balance represents
unrestricted funds.
