ULSTER ARCHAEOLOGICAL SOCIETY NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31$t DECEMBER 2023 STATEMENf OF ACCOUNfING POLICIES Accounting convention The financial staterllents have been prepared under the historical cost convention, They have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Reconynended Practice (SORP) "Accounting and Reporting by Charities" and the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of treland {FRS 102) (effective l January 2015) Charities SORP (FRS 102)) and tbe Charities Act (NI) 2008. Income All income is rcoogllised once the society has entitlement to the funds, it is certain that the funds will be Teceived and the monetary valuc of income can be n]easured wttb sufficient reliability. Incotlle from charitable activities represents amounts receivable from members and other sundry income. Donations and legacies are recognised in full in the Statetnent of Financial Activities for the period to which they relate. Expenditure Liabilities are recognised as expenses as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the society to the expenditure. All expenditure is accounted for on an accrual's basis. Costs of generatlng funds The cost of generating fjjnds consists of the printtng costs of the Ulster Journal of Archaeology and costs incuThed with the society's annual dinner. Charltable actlvltles Costs of charitsble activities include expenses incurred in respect of lectures and field trips orgallised by thc SOLiety, tOgFetheT with all costs involving the public accountability of the charity and it's compliance with rcgulation and good practice. Taxatlon There is no liability to taxation due to the society's charitable status. Fund Accounting The society has various types of ftmds for which it IS Te5ponsible and whicb require separate disclosure. These are as follows.. Restrlcted Funds Donations received which are designated by the donor for specific PUTposes. Such PUTposes are within the overall aims of the organisation. Unrestrieted Funds Funds whieh are expendable at the discretion of the society in furtherance of the objects of the soci¢ty.
