TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 December 2022

The Trustees have pleasure in presenting their annual report along with the financial statements of the Charity for the year ended 31 December 2022.

Structure, governance and management

Constitution

The Irish Christian Endeavour Union is a registered Charity governed by its Constitution which was adopted on 1 April 2016

Organisation

The Charity is organised and supported with affiliated Christian Endeavour groups throughout Ireland.

The Board of Trustees meets twice a year and administers the Charity. They have in the Constitution delegated organisational powers to the Council and Boards who are responsible for the transaction of all business. The Officers have delegated powers from the trustees to appoint such vacancies as occur during the year and any other issues which may arise that may be thought expedient for carrying out the work of the Charity.

All major decisions relating to overall policy and management are taken by the Trustees.

Trustees

There are four trustees and they are appointed on a three yearly basis by those members attending the Annual General Meeting.

Recruitment of new Trustees is usually as a result of personal contact with persons who have suitable knowledge and experience. Induction and training is by invitation to observe Trustee meetings and activities of the Charity. New Trustees are encouraged to read the explanatory literature provided by the Charity Commission.

All Trustees give of their time freely and receive no remuneration from the Charity.

Risk management

The Trustees actively review the major risks which the Charity faces on a regular basis, by carrying out appropriate risk assessments through the Access NI procedures. All potential operational risks are examined and the Trustees confirm that they have established systems to mitigate significant risks, and believe that available reserves provide sufficient resources in the event of any adverse occurrences.

Purpose and activities of the Charity

The purpose of the Charity throughout the year continues to help children and young people to understand the Christian Faith and for them to become personally involved in applying it in their daily lives and as responsible citizens. The charitable purpose therefore is the advancement of religion.

The activities that achieve this purpose are as follows:

When planning our activities for the year, the Trustees have considered the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit and, in particular, the specific guidance on charities for the advancement of religion.

No private benefit was derived from the activities by any trustee or external facilitator

Achievements and performance

During the year, the Charity carried out its on-going activities to achieve its overall purposes and to meet the public benefit requirement..

These included the regular devotional meetings and committee work by our affiliated groups. Our yearly missionary project raised £3,000 for Open Schools Worldwide and Reach Mentoring received £545.00. Junior members worked towards the CE Award Scheme. Our Annual Convention was held in September. This was an all age meeting. A residential event and an afternoon tea were held for adult members and friends. We published our magazines containing reports of all our activities twice during the year. We kept in touch with leaders via email, offering encouragement and advice as required. Personal visits were also made to groups. A Zoom training session for leaders took place.

These activities followed the direct benefits that flow from our public benefit requirement ie spiritual and moral development; ministry to young people; promotion of Christian values; training of volunteers. All of these activities assist young people in development of their Christian faith.

The Trustees consider that these activities were all successful in taking forward the purposes of the Charity during the year.

The Trustees are aware of the necessity of continuing to assess the future needs of the Charity and the means by which it can actively support its own operations.

Trustees during the year were as follows;

Mrs Rosemary McDaniel Mrs Jean McGall Mrs Rosemary Carson Mr Alan Blair
