Report of the trustees for the year endlng 31 March 2024
The trustees are pleased to pr8sent their annual Trustees, Report together with the financial
statements of the charity for the year ending 31 March 2024. The financial statements comply
with the Charities Act 2011 and Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of
Recommend8d Practice applicable to charities p￿parIng their accounts in accordance with
the Flnancial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)
(effective 1 J8nu8ry 2015).
The purpo8e8 of the charity
Daneo Human and Spiritual Development Services is an Association set up in 2003 to provide
pastoral counselling In Northern Ireland. It operates as a cross-community Association and
exists lo foster and promote the benefit of all sections and denominations of the community to
abolish sectarianism and segregation. Services are offered to those from all or no faith
background.
Our employees
Daneo Human and Spiritual Development SeNices was Founded by members of th8
Passionlst and Mercy Congregations incorporating the mlsslon and reflecting the values of
both, whose aims are to offer solldarity and support to all those who are suffering. It Operates
with four self-employed independent qualified counsellors and an administrator, All therapists
belong to professional bodies, holding Accreditation status, and the centre is insured to the
highest standards,
Achievements and performance
The Daneo team continue to dellver counselling sessions along wlth clinical and pastoral
super¥ision. They provide therapeullc outreach to Holy Cross Glrl's primary school and
consultancywork and counselllng to Cancer Lffeline, consultancy workto Survlvors of Trauma
and Lenadoon counselling seNlce.
Because of the pastoral nature of Daneo SepAces, Clergy, S8minarians and Religious
contlnue to access pastoral supporL supervision, vocatlonal discernment, and spiritual
directlon.
Daneo Services recently published a joumal called "Reflections on Spirituality
and Hopefulness" wlth contributions from trustees and manywho work closely with us and use
our serrfices. The publication was widely distributed and well received.
Financial revlew
Daneo Human and Spiritual Development Services receive no government funding. The
charlty operated a deficit for the year. This was deducted from cash raserves.
Plans for future perlods
Our plan is to malntain and expand these services, so more people can receive the benefrts
of counselling regardless of circumstances.

Structure, Governance and Management
Govemlng document
Daneo Human and Spiritual Development Services is operated as a charity. The organisation
was registered as a charity on 5th February 2015 with a declaration of trust outlining the
administration, objects and powers of the charity. Official charitable status was accorded to
the company on this date. The constitution was amended on 1 Olh January 2018 to ensure best
practise for the charity's interactions with members and trustees. The charity's trustee5 are
responsible for the preparation of financial statements in accordanGe with the Charities SORP
(FRS 102) and United Kingdom Accounting Standards.
Appointment of trustees
The existing trustees are responsible for the recruitrnent of new trustees but in doing so the
trustees seek the views and recommendations of community leaders. The trustees believe
this approach ensures that new trustees are respected members of the local communities.
Trustee Brian McKee resigned on 4th Marcln 2024 due to oth8r commitments with new
employment.
Organlsation
The board of trustees administers the charity. The board normally meets monthly and covers
development, membership and finance. A Chair is appointed by the trust88S to manage the
day-tO•day operations of the charity. To facilitate effective operations, the Chair has delegated
authority, withln terms of delegation approved by the trustees, for operatlonal matters induding
finance and development related activity.
Principal funding sources
The charity's main source of income comes from the Daneo Team with generous supportfrom
the Passlonist and Mercy Congragations. supplemented by charglng for space to provlde
pastoral counselling In North Belfast.

Trustee's responslbllltles in relation to the financial 8tatements
The charity trustees of Daneo Human and Spiritual Development Services are responsible for
preparing a trustees, annual report and financial statements in accordance with applicable law
and United Kingdorn Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting
Practice).
Charities SORP requires the charity trustees to prepare financial statements for each year
which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company and the group
and of the incoming resources and application of resources, including the income and
expenditure, of the charitable group for that period. In preparing the financial statements. the
trustees are required to:
select suitsble accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP;
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent.
state whether applicable UK accounting standards have been followed, subject to any
material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements;
prepare the financial statements on the going concem basls unless it is inappropriate
to presume that the Gharity will continue in business.
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with
reasonable accuracy at any time the financlal position of the charity and to enable them to
ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities SORP. They are also
responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and th8 group and hence taking
reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Statement as to disclosure to our accountants
In so far as the trustees are aware at the time of approving our trustees, annual report:
there is no relevant information, being Infonnation needed by the accountant in
connection with preparing their report, of which the accountant is unaware, and
the trustees, having made enquiries of fellow directors that they ought to have
individually taken, have each taken all steps that helshe is obliged to take as a trustee
in order to make themselves aware of any relevant information and to establish that
the accountant is aware of that information.
