## **TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT**

## **Year ended 31 March 2025**

## **Trustees’ Annual Report for the year ended 31 March 2025**

The Trustees present the Annual Report and Statements of Receipts and Payments and Assets and Liabilities for Derryhirk Rural Development Association for the year ended 31 March 2025.

## **Structure, Governance and Management**

Derryhirk Rural Development Association is an unincorporated association. The Association was formed on 8 June 2004 and its governing instrument is its constitution.

The Association is administered by its officers who, for the purposes of charity law, are Trustees. Officers are sought according to the needs of the charity. The officers are assisted in the running of the charity by a committee consisting of a minimum of five members.

## **Objectives and Activities**

The objects of the Association are:

- To advance through education the skills and knowledge of the inhabitants of the area of benefit;

- To facilitate the greater involvement of marginalised sections of the community, in particular women and girls, young people, the disabled and the elderly in the life of the community;

- To promote awareness of the history, folklore and cultural heritage of the area;

- To encourage acceptance, understanding and appreciation of the cultural diversity of the area of benefit;

- To promote, by education and encounter, good community relations with other groups and cultural traditions and to interact with same in a spirit of peace and community reconciliation.

## **Achievements and Performance**

Derryhirk Rural Development Association had a busy and successful 2024/2025 year. The management and maintenance of our community hall has had a significant impact on our community. Our efforts continue to foster social interaction, inclusion, and community spirit by organising a number of events throughout the year and maintaining the building to a high standard to enable these events to take place.

Events this year included a Table Quiz, Community Concert and a Harvest thanksgiving service. These activities brought people together, creating a closer-knit neighbourhood, improved health and well-being, and strengthened positive relationships within the area. Our work demonstrates the value of a well-managed community space in fostering growth and community belonging.

## **TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT** _**(continued)**_

## **Year ended 31 March 2025**

## **Achievements and Performance – cont’d**

We were successful in obtaining grants from ABC council via the Financial Assistance Programme, which greatly helped to cover our general running costs.

## **Charities Commissioner of Northern Ireland - Statement of Compliance**

Derryhirk Rural Development Association has given careful consideration to the Charity commission for Northern Ireland’s guidance on public benefit to ensure that the activities entered into help to achieve the charity’s objectives and activities, as well as providing public benefit.

The benefit is defined as:

- The empowerment of the local community to improve their living conditions and environment.

- Provision of a more stable, safer neighbourhood by developing strong, positive relations between different people within the community.

- Improved health and wellbeing for the local community.

- Increased education and skills for participants.

- Increase social interaction and inclusion with other members of the local community.

- Access to further training and employment opportunities.

- The building of positive community relations at a local level and the development of a more inclusive civic and cultural identity.

- Provision of opportunities for the local community to explore their culture, history and identity.

The charity’s beneficiaries are mainly (but not restricted to) inhabitants of the local area, including areas of Derrycorry, Derryhirk, Annaghmore, Tullyroan, Moy and Loughgall and to those visiting the area.

## **Financial Review**

The accounts show a surplus of £1,083 for the year (unrestricted surplus of £892, restricted surplus of £191).

Total accumulated funds (unrestricted and restricted) at the year end stand at £18,466. Total unrestricted funds amounted to £5,242, (of which £4,194 relate to fixed assets and £1,048 to cash funds). Total restricted funds amounted to £13,224 (of which £12,735 relate to fixed assets and £489 to cash funds).

The Trustees have not set a minimum level of reserves to be maintained by the charity due to the nature of the charity’s activities and minimal day to day running costs.

## **Going Concern**

The Trustees have reviewed the position of the charity and are of the opinion that the charity will continue in its activities and the accounts should be prepared on a going concern basis.
