Structure, Governance and Management
Derryhirk Rural Development Association is an unincorporated association. The Association was formed on 8 June 2004 and its governing instrument is its constitution.
The Association is administered by its officers who, for the purposes of charity law, are Trustees. Officers are sought according to the needs of the charity. The officers are assisted in the running of the charity by a committee consisting of a minimum of five members.
Objectives and Activities
The objects of the Association are:
-
To advance through education the skills and knowledge of the inhabitants of the area of benefit;
-
To facilitate the greater involvement of marginalised sections of the community, in particular women and girls, young people, the disabled and the elderly in the life of the community;
-
To promote awareness of the history, folklore and cultural heritage of the area;
-
To encourage acceptance, understanding and appreciation of the cultural diversity of the area of benefit;
-
To promote, by education and encounter, good community relations with other groups and cultural traditions and to interact with same in a spirit of peace and community reconciliation.
Achievements and Performance
During the 2021-2022 year, activities of Derryhirk Rural Development Association were affected by the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. Like many other community organisations, we faced challenges resuming activities.
We were successful in obtaining a grant for our running costs from ABC council via the Financial Assistance Programme, which greatly helped to cover our costs. DAERA/Cooperation Ireland awarded us funding to purchase folding tables so we could hold events, both indoors and outdoors as appropriate.
