OVERVIE
Ve ended 2022 with a deficit of £17,067 (compared to a SULplus in 2021 of £47,471). assets at the end of
the yeai amounted to £248,958 (compared to £266,025 in 2021). Tliey are coinpiised of r￿ed assets of £114,307
and net current assets of £134,651.
At fiist glance, it miglit appear that our fortunes have taken a diastic turn in 2022. However, oui income in 2021
was significandy boosted by pioceeds IIDM filming piojects whicli took place at St Petei's 2nd St James. This
income stream is. by its nature, vaiiable and sporadic and whilst it coniinued to piovide ievenue in 2022, smaller
projects meèint less income. In 2021, we were the grateful iecipients of a substantial gift of £10,000 ftom one of
oui subsctibets but income fiom such singular gifts will also vaiy From yeai to year and we did not receive
substantial gAfts oi bequests in 2022. Howevtt, it IS Posltive that planned giving in the form of ￿V0 and standing
orders, which foiyns the cole of our income, increased and remained a stable income source.
INCOME
Total income in 2022 amounted to £115,120 compared to income in 2021 of £189,850.
Our main sources of income remained the same: contributions Etom members of the congregation, donations
fiom patish oiganisations, proceeds from fthning that toolc p]2ce on chuich piemises, various gtants, tentgl
income, and disttibutions and interest From investments.
FWO envdopes, st2n(ling orders and annual subsctiptions amounted to £54,707 in 2022. 1 am pleased to tepott
tb2t this is an increase OE £2,329 compated to the ptevlous yeat. We are very gratefi￿ for youi contributions and
also thank you foi giving generously to the special collection An Novembei 2022 which taised £2,760 foi genetal
Funds. We also thank the Bridge Club and Crdfty Goodness fot their contributions.
The church makes use oEGiEt Aid (the legitirnate iecovery of t2x Erom HMRC on cettain types of f￿anCIaL income
which enabled us to teclaim almost £18,000. This Thryll continue to be an impottant soutce of income to the patish
and it is particularly impottant For those who give tegulady to the parish to declare Gift Aid wherever it is legitimate
to do so. Please contact Nod Beattie should you iequile a form.
Filming on chuich ptemises generated £2,600. This money lias been classified as designated funds and has been
added to film income from the previous yeai. The Sdect Vestty will determine its investment and allocation on
the advice of the Finance Committee in the coming months.
Giants conunued to be impoitant in funding mission piojects. We were Eottunate to receive £1,200 fixim Belfast
City Council which ptovided the catering 2nd supplies for the Friendship Club. Furthet engagement with the
local community ￿$ Facilitated by grant of £300 fromTLG which Eunded a children's party. We ieceived £8,320
from die St James, Endowment Fund which covered the costs of elnploying our two mintstry asststants, DavAd
Cromie and LAur2 Lacey, thtoughout 2022.
It is pleasing that income Etom hall hite has returned to pre-pandemic levels and biought in £8,709 fiom a wide
lange of usets Fiom the well-bein& political, youth and leisute sectots (as detailed in Note 19 to the accounts).

Rooms in the fom]ei St James, chuicli conlinued to be IIiLed by St Stephen's Coptic Ottliodox Chuicli who also
coveted the cost of their utility bills. Rental income generated £1,800,
We hold investments with M&G Chatifund, the Ptogiessive Building Society, the RCB (cash on dep05Lt and in
the Geneixl Unit Tiust) 2nd in unit tLUSts witli the Chutch ol lieland Tiustees. You WAll lind the income ftom
these investments detailed in Note 4, and vallOUS dAStiibutions deducted from the expenses to which they peitaln
under expendI￿re. The investments themsdves ale laid out in Note 12.
EXPE
DIT
Our expendittjre in 2022 totalled £132,187.
No significant woiks in the church weie undeitaken in 2022 but expenditure beyond general repaiLS and
maintenance included roof repaits OF £660, 2n asbestos survey at £390 and new bjinds for the hall at a cost OF
£370. You will find our general running costs detailed in Notes 7-9 to the accounts. The most significant costs
Eor St Jaines were legal fees of £1,200 as we seek to tesolve the issues involving title to the pioperty.
Rectory gaiden tepaits of £1,196 weLe covered by the restt'lcted ￿ndS of the Covid 19 Chaiities giant we received
in 2020 for that purpose, 2nd othet small maintenance woiks at the Rectory totalling £398 came out of geneial
funds.
The Diocese receives the bulk of its income thiough the Geneial Fund assessment on all patishes and we paid
our share oE£9,523 in 2022 in full.
Clergy eXpendi￿le (induding relief clergy and pension contributions) was £53,890 (an inctease of just over £1,050
compared to 2021). The Rectoi received a stipend and office and locomotory expenses in accordance with figutes
ptovided by the Gene121 Synod of the Church of Ireland.
We believe in the impoitance of using our tesoutces to support good causes beyond the mission of St Petei's and
out patish boundaiies and we wue pleYAsed to support North Bellast Salvation Atmy, Motor Neutone Disease
Assoclaiion Nl, Chiistians Against Povetty, Belfast Sgmaiitans, and AJzheimei?s Research UIC with donations of
£300 each (as detailed An Note 19 to the accounts). Parishionets also generously donated £1,706 to provide ielief
for the victims of the war An Ulcraine in addition to the funds donated by the ChaLlties Acuon Group of £3,325.
OWLEDGEMENTS
We thank you for yout continued suppoit especially as we flre all still n2vigating the effects of the pandemic whilst
also facing significant increases in cost OE living expenses. It might seem more prudent to talk OF tightening out
belts iathei than loosening oui pulse strings but it is our hope that we view glving as a pllvilege in gtatefijl
recognition of eveiything that God h2s done foi us. Planned giving lies at the heart OF our fin2nci21 security but
it currendy fails to meet our eveiydAy expenses 2nd we simply ask that you ieview what YOU 21e able comfottably
to contrAbute. We acknowledge too that giving takes many foims and appieciate the time 2nd eEfoit ￿Ven by so
many of our membets.
Ve ale very giateful to all those involved in collecting, counling, and administeiing church funds, and we thank
David Huntei Foi his assistance and the piepatauon of the Independent Examinei's Repott.
