LONDONDERRY MUSICAL SOCIETY REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE 2023 The Board of Trustees presents its report and financial statements for the year ended 30 June 2022. How our charity activities deliver public benefrt Activities LMS had a very busy year! Our 60th Anniversary Concert was held on 18th November. featuring Fr Eugene O'Hagan and Margaret Keys. This was followed in January when a celebratory dinner was organised. 9 to 5 The Musical played to very appreciative audiences at the end of March. In June, we took part in the Legenderry Relay for Life and our season ended with the annual Garden Paty. Through all our many events, we were proud to raise 8 substsntial amount of money for this year's nominated charity, Cancer Research UK. Public benefit The public benefits which flow from our activities are as follows= The education of young and old from all parts of the community in the dramatic and operatic arts of acting. singing and dancing. through membership of the Society. Participation in our activities give young and old the confidence to perform, not only with the Society but in many other events in the area bringing the arts to a wide range of the local population. The Society brings a very high standard of production to the general public in the local area and enables our audiences to enjoy and appreciate the arts of acting, singing and dancing through the medium of musical shows and concerts. Our audiences have the opportunity to enjoy musicals, concerts and plays which they might not otherwise see.
LONDONDERRY MUSICAL SOCIETY REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE 2023 (CONTINUED) A large number of charities in the local area and beyond have benefitted from our annual Showstoppers Concerts, which have helped to raise considerable sums of money. In setting our objectives and planning our activities for the year the trustees have given careful consideration to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland's guidance on public benefit to ensure that the activities have helped to achieve the charity's purposes and provide a benefit to the beneficiaries. Our aims, objectives and activities are reviewed, monitored and assessed through our ongoing programme of regular committee meetings. Financlal review Financial osition The truslees report a financial position at the year end with available funds of £48,381 These funds are held to allow for the development of the Society and to meet preliminary costs of planned events for the incoming year. Structure, governance and management. Governin document The governing document of the charity is its constitution which sets out the charity's purposes. The charity is registered with the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland. Recruitment and a ointment of mana ement committee The Society is administered by a committee who are Irustees of the charity for the purposes of Charity Law. LONDONDERRY MUSICAL SOCIETY INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE CHARITY TRUSTEES OF LONDONDERRY MUSICAL SOCIETY I report on the accounts of Londonderry Musical Society for the year ended 30 June 2023, which are set out on pages 4 to 5. Respective responsibilities of charity trustees and examiner As the charity's trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008. It is my responsibility to". examine the accounts under section 65 of the Charities Act. follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Commission under section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act. and state whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basis of independent examiner's report I have examined your charity accounts as required under section 65 of the Charities Act and my examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland under section 65(9){b) of the Charities Act. My examination included a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also included consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as charity trustees concerning any such matters. My role is to state whether any material matters have come to my attention giving me cause to believe: 1. That accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 63 of the Charities Act., 2. That the accounts do not accord with those accounting records; 3. That the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act. and 4. That there is further information needed for a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached. Independent examinerfs statement I have completed my examination and have no concerns in respect of the matters {1) to (4) listed above and. in connection with following the Directions of the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, I have found no matters that require drawing to your attention.
