Objectives and acbvities
World of Owls (kn) is the only animal sanctuary of rts ￿"nd in Northern Ireland and as such is the
premier Chvl. Birds of Prey and Exots'c Animals conseTvation centre in the country. The pnmary objective
of the organisatM)n is to support the survtval of owls through rescue. conseNation. education. research
and restorab.￿ of their natural habitat.
The animals in our (2re have all b&n rescued due to s￿knesS, ffoltreatnEnt and neglect. In caring for
them, we also provKle a large range of benefits to the publ￿ at large. including edU￿tion on animal
welfare, and the preventK)n of cruelty as well as bro￿er enVirC￿ments1 and ecological issues. For our
younger visrtors. the education programme is dearty linked to the Nl Revised Curriculwn taught in their
schools.
INe provide employability training and volunteering opportunities to a number of different welfare, and
community based organisatDns provin￿ W￿e. We also work with Jobs & Benefits. the Education
Authorty, sthools, colleges, unive(sities. and disabil.ty groups in providing work experien￿ pla￿Ments,
education and training in an ecological and environmentsl framework. Woo therefore operates with
volunteers from so many different walks of lrfe offering them opportunities and enrichment from so many
different actiV￿.es.
Vvhen planning our activities for the year. the trustees have considered the Commission's guidance on
public benefit. There ts absolutety no private benefft and no potentsl hami from any of Woo objectives.
Achlevements and perfommnee
Wodd of Owls continues its strong links with the Education Authority. other educati¢)n bodies and
providers province wide and continues to deliver serVi￿S under the condilions and aims of our Mission
Statement. This is growing annually giving us a strong overall financial [￿)sition.
Fundraising activits.es continued throughout the year and in the opinion of the trustees, we
successful.
The Nl Protocol brought on by Brexit continues to cause problems arc￿nd supplies of food and
equipment from England. We still need to source gcM)ds from other EU countries which continues to
have a negative effect on prrm due to increased transportation costs. Energy pri￿S have also
increased s￿nIrThntty over the last year placing extra pressure on our operating costs.
Pre-pandemrc, World of won a number of awards which helFÉd to slingshot the charity into the
top ￿nty list of tourism destinatDn for Northem Ireland. Out of a sur4ey of 150 attractions World of
Owls came in at 181D winning "Best Small Visrtor AttractK)n 2019r20- by the NITB and Local Council
Tourist inlurtive and °Best Small Animal Attraction. runner up for°George Best Cty Airport- tourism
awards 2019120.
These awards led onto a 'Best Animal Attraction. award from Mr. Justtn Reid. Director of Media,
Destinations, Hotels and Gro•Ah at TripAdvisor. Buikling on this. we also won TripAdvisorfs Award of
"Top 10% of Attracts'ons W)rtdwide" and "Best Small Animal Visitor Attraction 2023 NI..
In terms of general operations, we have now, after a bt of negotiations, secured a lease extension on our
premtses from Jan 2024 to Jan 2034 This will provmle the stability needed for us to plan for continued
growth at the site. In line with the organisatM)n's statutory resp)nsibilities 3 Senior Staff look part in First
Aid Training and AED Defibrillator training whtth enhances the safety for our visitors and volunteers.
