Chairperson report

I would like to start by welcoming everyone to this AGM this evening, to our committee members, new and existing parents and our staff. It has been a good year for woodlands playgroup and through out some challenges that we face faced, i think we all worked well together to do the best for the playgroup.

For the year 22/23 we had we had 7 preschool children these children continued to build on their skills through the Highscope programme led by Roisin Mcgovern and Marie Treanor. This programme helps and prepares them for starting primary school, the skills learned and developed here are essential to their success as thy move on. This year are preschool numbers are at their max at 16 children for the year 23/24 which is an amazing start to the year and shows the hard work that the staff put into the programme.

Our Eager and Able programme run by Emer Mcdermott had 15 children for the year 22/23, these children attended part time and it is so beneficial to their development. This year we have 5 children attending the programme so far, with more starting as the year progresses. This year we are changing the payment for this programme when Emer returns from her annual leave these children will starting on the 12[th] October, going forward it will be £6 per day along with there registration fee. Letters will be provided for parents/guardian’s nearer this date.

We had two big fundraising events last year, a Christmas family fun day which was held in local community centre and also our Playgroup summer Bbq which both had an amazing turn out and raised vital funds and had great support from whole community.

As most of you may know we had to make the hard choice of closing the afterschool due to staff difficulties, with so many children there is still an issue with staffing numbers which we are working to resolve. We have luckily been given been awarded a Jobstart funding pack which is a great opportunity for young people who are studying towards childcare can be placed in a child care setting to work. If any parents know of someone that may benefit from this opportunity or have any ideas they may want to pass on please let member of staff or myself, or committee member know.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff and parents for working with the Management Committee as we navigated throughout the year thank you all for the support and, for the people that attended any playgroup meetings we had to schedule. I thank the Committee – Helen Mckenna, Cathy McKenna and Shauna McKenna for taking the time out of their busy days and nights to help support the setting as a whole. I think we can agree that the protocols in place at the Playgroup are superb and we can all rest easy that our children are as safe as can be every day, thanks to our hard working staff members.

As parents of Woodlands, I would like to encourage you all to help support our setting by getting involved in any way you can. As a Registered Charity, we rely on grants, funding and fundraising to help us grow and move forward. We welcome any odd jobs completed, following our rota for general outside maintenance and supporting fundraising ideas. Attending Committee meetings is the best way to get involved in the running of the setting, asking questions and making it the best it can be for your child during their time there. I want to thank you all again for the support this year and wish all of those taking up new positions the very best for next year. Catherine Mckenna
