From 1° April 2016 to 30, March 2107, the PTFA of Holy Cross College, Strabane enjoyed another
very successful year. Thanks to the participation and generosity of the pupils, staff and parents,
significant funds were raised: £7422.08 irb total.
The expenditure for the year totalled £6103.12 which enabled the committee to support a nltmber
of trips and resources for pupils in Holy Cross College.
A proportion of the fund was spent on trarbSPOrt for pupi15 that enabled them to attend events that
would otherwise have been unaffordable. This included transport to airport for Science vislt to
London. transport to the ET festival in Ebrington square, transport for pupils participating in trlp the
Pope John Paul Award pilgrimage to Croagh Patrick and transport for several visits to the theatre for
students of Drama. The PTFA a150 helped to support pupils form the college who were travelling to
Europe as part of the 'PopTap' to compete in a dance competition in Portugal.
Bursaries were made to students who were going to the Gaeltacht in the summer and for young
carers to VlSlt Lourdes. Funding was provided for a CORE youth group retreat in Gortin. Funding was
also made available for a student who has been awarded a place on the summer school with the
Ulster Youth Theatre.
The PTFA sUPPOrted a number of ventures by providing equipment for students. This included
provision of tents for the pupils completing the Duke of Edinburgh Award, a camera for Moving
Image Arts, and art materials for the popular art class facllitated by Mrs Georgina Mc Gonagle which
ran after school for parents and members ot the local community.
The PTFA provided funding for the registration of Peer Mentors with OCN, so that their valuable
training and contribution could be enhanced by accreditation with a recognised qualification. This
qualification was provided in partnership with EA worker Gavin Deeney and has supported the
development of Leadership skills in the school and in the wider communityj where many participants
have gone on to take an active role In Strabane Youth Council.
PTFA also funded valuable programmes facilitated by The Youn8 Enterprize Academy.
As usual, the PTFA were happy to contribute to celebrating the success of puplls in Key Stage 3 by
sponsoring the awards on Prize night.
Another wonderful evenin& (the Guest Teal brought members of the community together to enjoy
homemade delights and were also able to enjoy the best of the musical talent in the school, thanks
to the generosity of the music department. Thanks also to ourveryown Mary Berry l Mrs Mary Mc
Crossanl who demonstrated and supervised a workshop on Christma5 cake decoratlon in De￿Mber.
