Activities

The Association is established to support by means of financial assistance and voluntary work to any charitable project for the promotion of animal welfare and the relief of poverty, unemployment, social exclusion and hardship in the Ballyclare area and its environs of Co. Antrim in particular but not exclusively (hereinafter referred to as “the area of benefit”) without distinction of age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, ethnic identity, political or religious opinion by associating with the statutory authorities, community and voluntary organisations and the inhabitants of the area of benefit in a common effort to improve the conditions of life for the said inhabitants and in particular: (a) to promote animal welfare and support by means of financial assistance any charitable projects for the relief of animals which are in distress or in need of sanctuary, or vetinary treatment and ancillary to the foregoing to support any charitable project in the area of benefit which educates the public about the proper care of animals or about the prevention of cruelty to animals. (b) to relieve poverty, social exclusion and unemployment by the promotion, facilitation and organisation of adequate, accessible and quality programmes of vocational and educational training, mentoring, information and support in an effort to acquire skills and retraining to assist the beneficiaries in obtaining new skills, qualifications, employment or practical work experience and thereby assisting in developing independent living skills, integration and participation in society; (c) to advance any other exclusively charitable purpose as the Committee, may from time to time, decide in accordance with the law of charity in Northern Ireland. For the purposes of this article ‘socially excluded’ means people who are excluded from society, or parts of society, as a result of one or more of the following factors: unemployment; financial hardship or low income; race; poor educational or skills attainment; substance abuse or dependency including alcohol and drugs or crime on criminality).
