The Trustees of Lower Broomhedge Community A880ciation present their report for the year ending 31st December 2023 and are content that throughout the year the Trustees have complied with Iheir duty to have due regard to the Charity Commission's public benefit guidance when exercising any powers or dutie8 to which the guidance 18 relevant. The Trustees wish to place on record their gratitude and acknowledge the contributlon made by member8 and volunteers without which and along with the support of the wlder community our prograrnmes would not have been delivered. The Trustees would also like to thank Lisbum & Castlereagh City Council for the funding without which we may not have been able to continue our work within the local rural Gommunity. Charitsble purposes The purposes of the charity are: 1. The relief of need and the advancement of education of the inhabitants of the Broomhedge area and its environs in Broughmore, Englishtown, Lurganure, Moyrusk and Ballynalargy (hereinafter described as "the area of benefrt") without distinction of age, sex, race, political, religious or other opinion. It will 80 do by associating the statutory authoritles, voluntary organisation8 and inhabitant8 in a common affort to advance education and to provide facilities In the interests of the social welfare, education, recreation or other leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of lrfe for the said inhabitants; 2. To advance knowledge and appreciation of the Ulster4cots Languag8 and culture arKI to encourage understanding and acceptance of all indigenou8 cultures to the area of benefrt. Publlc benoflts Purpose One The benefit is for all inhabitants within the environs of Ballynalargy, Broughmore, Englishtown, Lurganure and Moyru8k. The direct benefit flowing from this, 18 safe and neutral facllity for the residents to U8e for meetings or Iraining courses. The benefit 18 evidenced by word of mouth from the attendees and frorn feedback via evaluation fonns following the particular events. Further benefrts include a more vibrant and inclusive society vla the educatlonal programmes and recreational activities but this has been curtailed this year as we emerge from the coronavirus pandemic. The benefits are evidenced through the diverse set up within the organisatlon and through feedback generated from the activities f8cilitated by thè organisation. Purpose Two: This benefit Is for all withln the Ballynalargy, Broughmore, Englishtown, Lurganure and Moyrusk communty. The dir8Ct benefit flowing from this a more informed soclety and healthier community lifestyle, giving a better standard of living conditions and environment. This 18 evidenced by feedback both qualitative and quantitative. Summary of our maln actlvitle8 for publlc b•n•fit in rolatlon to the80: In planning our adivilies for the year Lower Broomhedge Community Association (LBCA) kept in mind the Charity Commi88ion'8 guidance on public benefit at both our trustee and open meeting8 and continued to provide a varied range of services and activities for our communty in this isolated rural area. The direct charitable activitie8 provided social interaction and learning opportunities for all sections of the communty of all ages. We provided facilities for social, recreational and educational activity where we have been able to give the local community the opportunity lo leam new skills and improve existing skills. All programmes were delivered through the principle of equality, in an effort to advance education and to preserve the environment and heritage within the area. experience and build strong community relations. During the past year we have held successful events induding: Volunteer training workshops. Computer workshops. King's coronaon Celebrations. Coffee momings Autumn BBQ & Dance. Musical classes. Drumming competrtion matches. Christmas Dlnner and social evenings. The Tru8tee8 would like to thank all the volunteers and members of the community who attended and supported these events. Throughout the year we engaged with Lisburn & Castlereagh City CounGiI, Ulster- Scots Agency and other local statutory and voluntary groups, Restrlctlon8 on who can nefit. Throughout the year restrictions on who can benefrt from our direct charitable aGtlvities were managed and mitigated by reducing to a minimum or removing, where possible, admi88ion fees to our events and en8uring safe access to our facilities was maintained for all activili68, Harm. Our purp0888 do not lead to any harm. There are several policies in place such as Safeguarding Policy, Health and Safety Policy and Financial Procedural Policy which are regularly reviewed and at the Annual General Meeting. The Trustees of Lower Broomhedg8 Community Association can confirm thera were no incidents or cause for concern in rel8tlon to our Safeguarding Policy during this reporting year. Privats bonefiL The only private b8nefit from our purposes is that a trustee or family membar may participate in the 8ame manner as all other benefiGiarieB, thi8 is purely incidental and neces8ary, 80 that the benefft is available to all Inhabitants of the area. The private benefil for Group member8 is in line with the r88t of the communlty, which is gaining a healthier lrfestyle, and being better inforrned. Thanks.
