The Trustees, have pleasure in presenting their report and the accounts of the charity for the year
ended 31 August 2018.

Objectives and Activities
Objectives
Colmcille Youth was established wlth the objective of helping the chlldren and young people in the
parish of St Colmcille's Ballyhackamore to take on board the Christian ethos, helping them to feel
valued, giving them more self-worth and confidence, promoting positive mental health and well-
being, and a better understanding of moral and ethical issues. This in turn h3s a greater beneflt In
helping to sustain the wider parish community.
The charity not only includes the children and young people of the local area but also the Catholic
Polish, Indian and Filipino families and other children and young people in the local community of
other traditions and cultures. The aim is to integrate these pmmote mutual understanding and
greater tolerance for each otherfs attitudes, beliefs and cultures.
Activities
Colmcille YoLlth promotes the Catholic teaching with children, young people and young adults in
the community of St Colmdlle's parish, 8allyhackamore.
Wlthin the charity are a number of projects and group which help promote such teachings..
Chlldren's Lituryy - A Sunday morning group led by volunteers (teenagers and older
adults) who impart the Gospel message through stories, role play, games, arts & crafts;
Altar Servers Team & Club - training & monthly meetlngs;
Sacramental Preparation Classe5
for preparation for receiving the Sacraments of
Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation,.
Junior and Senior Youth groups, Young Adult group
where they meet socially,
engage In sporting artivitie5 and faith based programmes, have trips & retreat residentials
off site.
John Paul 11 Award - for 6th form students to undertaking roles to help them become
active members of the ChLJrch, and the local community,.
GIFf programme
Growing In Faith Together, for post Confim)ation children to support
them a5 they continue on their faith J"ourney,'
Its Your Move Programme - for Prirnary 7 children to help them in their transfer to post
primary education;
Special Young Ministers of the Word team training is provided for 12 - 16 years old to
undertake roles in leading prayers in Church on a rota basis.
Do This In Memory Of Me Programme - to encourage children who are preparing for
First Holy Communion to attend Mass on Sunday with family on a monthly basis.
Summer Holiday Blble Week - a leadership project for 14 - 26 year olds leading 4
year old children,. Young Adult monthly faith formation group; and
Resldentlal Retreats and additional Young Leader training programmes.
There is also outreach to the wider community wlthln projects.

Publlc Benefit statement
The Trustees of Colmcllle Youth confirm that they have complled wlth thelr duty under section 416)
of the Charities Act (Northern Arelandl 2008 to have regard to the Charity Commission for Northern
Ireland's guidance on public benefit and that the publlc benefil requirement has infomed the
activities of the charity in the year ended 31 August 2018.
AchievemÈnts and Performance
The year opened with eleven children joining the Altar Servers, teams. They have had training and
refresher sessions. There are currently thlrty four Servers. Thirty two young people, aged 11 - 17
years are currently on the rota for reading the Prayer of the Faithful. An additional ten are
preparing to be commissioned in September.
The pre Confirmation children had a commitment ceremony The Servlce of Light
in January.
Bishop Walsh then Confirmed the thirty nine young people on Sunday 22nd January. On Good
Friday fifteen young people and young adults led the Ilturgy for the Station5 of the Cross ftillowed
by a Taize Ilturgy. A number of parishioners commented on how moving they found the
comrnentaryi images and prayers. En preparation for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion, the
children participated in the mO￿thlY 'Do This In Memory of Me. parish prograrnme. DTIM ran over
five rnonths, at the 9.30am Sunday Mass. Seventy five children received their First Holy
Communion on Sunday 13th and 20th May. The evening sacramental classes are almost at full
capacity.
The Parlsh Youth Group ran throughout the year usually every fortnlght, though we only met on
in term 3 as there were not enough volunteer adults. Highlights were Bubbleball, Ice Skating, Clip
N Climb and a Bunting workshop. Additional adult volunteers are urgently needed to help sustaln
this 5mportant Church Youth group.
In October the Shore Box appeal in the parish and St Joseph's School realised over 80 filled boxes
donated. A Youth Ministry committee also came together in October to devise and support faith
based programmes in parish. A new initiative, RCIA, Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, began in
January after a period Df training for those accompanying the pre Catechumens, under Fr Perry
Gildea. The group meets every Wednesday evening in the Gartan Room to develop friendships and
give encouragement to those who are seeking to know more about the Catholic faith. re￿1ve
Baptism andlor Confirmation and Eucharist. The group resumes in September and welcomes more
people who wish to explore the Catholic faith, Four teenaoers joined the Ministry of Holy
Communion rota, after trainingi and two teenagers received a Dlocesan certlficate from Bishop
Noel Treanor in May, for their preparation in the Pastoral Area Lectors, course at St Malachys
during the year.
The numbers of children attending Children's Liturgy continue to remain high wlth up to sixty
usually attending on a Sunday morning. Young Volunteers have been most important in sustaining
this ministry. Additional adult leaders ère always needed. Four year 13 students are current
working towards their John Paul 11 award by engaging in ministrles ln the Church and faith based
soclal awareness activltles.

Achievements and Performance (Continued}
The EA funded an Inclusion programme for 11-13 year olds, with representatives froffl all our
cultural communities, in January/February. They took part in a number of sesslons and a
residential at Ganaway, Mllllsle, which concluded a Mass Wlth Fr Vincent. Twelve youth volunteered
with the Marie Cure Art Exhibition in April in the parish. In the month of June fifty Primary 7 puplls
participated In a falr based pragramrne 'lt's your Move., about coplng with transferring to their new
schools in September. The pmgramme also aims to help build links wlth the young people and to
encourage them to keep connected to the parish through Church, groups and events.
Sixteen teenagers partlcipated in the 5 day Christian summer camp, Summer Madne55, at Glenarm
Estate in July. The young people met together in May to pray for their exams and attended a
Thanksgiving Mass in June in the lona Room with Fr Tony and the Koinoniah Community of John
the Baptlst. They also took part in the OCN Level l Good Relations and Cultural Diversity
acC￿ditation with youth from other Christian denominations. The GI￿ post-confimiation
prograrnme for youth in June, concluded with a night out at Laser Tag. Flnally the parish summer
programme for children and teeriagers, Shoot For The Stars. included a leadership project, and a
holiday bible week for Pre-school to Primary 4 children in August. Some of our Brigham Young
Utah Universitvi surllmer resident Students, who are being hosted by parishiollers, also supported
the project. Young people aged 9 - 14 years took part in summer day trips to Lisburn Waterpark,
Barry's Amusements, Vertigo Trampoline Park and a day of activities including sport, crafts and a
drumming workship.

Financial Perforniance
The results for the year are set out in details on pages 6 and 7. The charlty retumed net incomlng
resources for the year of £5.971.
At 31 August 2018, the total funds of the charlty amounted Lo £9,957 compri51ng restrlcted funds
of £7,504 and unrestricted funds of £2,453. Principal sources of funding and how this has
supported the key objettives of the charitable company are disclosed in the notes to the financial
statements.

Colmcille Youth is a charity administered and managed in accordance with Its constitution, by the
member5 of the Management Committee, constituted by clause 5 of the constitution. The
constitution was formally adopted on 6th June 2016 by the members at the Annual General
Meeting.

Trustees, Responsibilities Statement
The trustees are responsible for preparing the Tru5tee5' Annual Report and the Accounts In
accordance with applicable law.
The law applicable to charities in Northern Ireland requlres the trustees to prepare flnancial
statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the
charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that period
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable
accuracy at any time the financial posbtion of the charity and enable them to ensure that the
accounts comply with the Charities Att (Northem Ireland) 2008 and the Charities {Accounts and
Reports) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015. They are also responsible for safeguarding the
assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of
fraud and other irregularities.

As the charity's Trustees, you are responsible for the preparatSon of the accounts in accordance
with the requirements of the Charities Art (Northern Ireland) 2008. It Is our responsibility to..
examine the accounts under section 65 of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008,.
follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charlty Commission
for Northern Ireland under section 65{9)(b) of the Charlties Act (Northern Ireland) 2008,,

state whether particular matters have come to our attention.
Basis of Independent Examinerfs Report
We have examined the charity's account5 as required under section 65 of the Charities Act
(Northern Ireland) 2008 and our examination was carried out in accordance with the general
directions given by the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland under settion 65{9){b) of the
Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008. The examination included a review of the accounting records
kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes
consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanatlons from
you as charity Trustees conceming any such matters.
Our role is to state whether any material matters have come to our attention giving u5 cause to
