The Trustees, have pleasure in presenting thelr report and the accounts of the charlty for the year
ended 31 August 2017.

Objectives and Activities
Objectlves
Colmcille Youth was established with the objettive of helping the chlldren and young people in the
parish of St Colmcille's Ballyhackamore to take on board the Christian ethos, helping them to feel
valued, giving thern more self-worth and confldence, promoting positive mental health and well-
being, and a better understanding of moral and ethical Issues. This in turn has a greater beneflt In
helping to sustain the wider parish community.
The charity not only incluées the children and young people of the local area but also the Catholic
Polish, Indian and Filipino families and other chlldren and young people in the local comrnunity of
other tradltlons and cultures. The aim is to integrate these promote mutual understanding and
greater tolerance for each other's attitudes, beliets and cultures.
Artiwities
Colmcille Youth promotes the Catholic teachlng wlth children, young people and young adults in
the community of 5t Colmcille's parish, Ballyhackamore.
Within the charity are a number of projects and group which help promote such teachings.,
Children's Liturgy A Sunday morning group led by volunteers (teenagers and older
adults) who impart the Gospel message thmugh stories, role play, games, arts & crafts;
Altar Servers Team & Club training & monthly meetings;
Sacramental Preparation Classes
for preparation for receiving the sacraments of
Reconciliation, First Communbon and Confirmation;
Junior and Senior Youth groups, Young Adult group
where they meet socially,
engage in sporting activities and faith based programmes, have trlps & retreat residentlals
off site:
John Paul 11 Award - ft>r 6th form student5 to undertaking roles to help thern become
ctive members of the Church, and the local cornmunityi
GIFT programme
Growing In Faith Together, for post Confirmation children to support
them as they continue on their faith Journey;
Its Your Move Programme - for Primary 7 children to help them in their transfer to post
primary educatlon,.
Speclal Young Ministers of the Word team - training is provlded for 12 - 16 years old to
undertake roles in leading prayers in Church on a rota basi5-
Do This In Memory Of Me Programme - to encourage children who are preparlng for
First Holy Comrllunion to attend Mass on Sunday with family on a monthly basls,.
Summer Holiday Bible Week - a leadership project for 14 - 26 year olds leadlng 4
year old children,. Young Adult monthly faith formation groupi and
Residential Retreats and additional Young Leader training programmes.
There is also outreach to the wider community within projects.

Publlc Benefit statement
The Trustees of Colmcille Youth confirm that they have complled wlth thelr duty under sectlon 4(6)
of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 to have regard to the Charity Commission for Northern
Ireland's guidance on public benefit and that the public benefit requirement has informed the
activities of the charity in the year ended 3 1 August 2017.
Achievements and Performan¢e
The year opened with nine children joining the Altar Servers, teams. They have had training and
refresher sessions and have been commissioned. There are currently twenty eight servers. Twenty
five young people, aged 11-17 years are currently on the rota for reading the Prayers of the
Falthful. Eleven teenagers particlpated In the OCN Level I prartlcal Youth Ministry Skills Leadershlp
Award and also the Good Relations & Cultural Diversity course, with a number of youno people
from local churches.
The pre Confirmation children had a cornmitment ￿rernony The Service of Light
in January.
Bishop Walsh then Conflrmed the thirty nine young people on Sunday 22 January. On Good Friday
fifteen young people and young adults led the liturgy for the Stations of the Cross followed by a
Taize liturgy. A number of paroshioners commented on how moving they found the commentary,
images and prayers. In preparation For the Sacrament of First Holy Communlon, the children
participated in the monthly 'Do This In Memory of Me, parish programme. DTIM ran over five
months, at the 9.30am Sunday Mass. Seventy five children received their First Holy Communion on
Sunday 14th and 215t May.
The parish youth group ran throughout the year every fortnight. Highlights were Bubbleball, the
Cinema and Vertigo Trampoline Park. Additional adults are needed to help sustain this important
Church Youth group.
The number of children attending Children's ￿turgY continue to remain high with up to slxty
usually attending on a Sunday morning. More assistance is needed to help the children get their
badges in the porch and to take the register during the Liturgy and to lead. Help would be
welcomed from teenagers, parents or other parlshioners.
Four year 13 students are currently worklng towards thelr John Paul 11 award by engaging In
ministries in the Church social awareness activities. In the month of June Prlmary 7 puplls
particlpated in a faith based programme 'It's Your Move,, about coping with transferrlng to their
new schools In September. The programme also aims to help build link5 Wlth the young people and
to encourage them to keep connected to the parish through Church, groups and events.
Finally the parish summer programme for children and teenagers, Seaside Rock, included a
leadership project, and a holiday bible week for Pre-school to Primary 4 children in August. 105
children participated, with 64 volunteer's leading/mentorlng/preparlng food. Young people aged 9
14 years took part in day trips. 50 went to Lisburn Waterpark, 37 to M&Ds Theme Park in Scotland
and 50 to Vertigo Trampoline Park & Adventure Centre.

Financial Performance
The results for the year are Set out in details on pages 6 and 7. The charity returned net outgoing
resources for the year of £3,622.
At 31 August 2017, the total funds of the charfty amounted to £3,986 comprising restritted funds
of £(9331 and unrestricted funds of £4,919. Principal sources of funding and how thls has
supported the key objectives of the charitable company are disclosed in the notes to the financlal
statements.
Restricted funds is showing a defiat due to a timing difference of core fundlng grant Income
received from the Education Authority. The income was received in the year ended 31 August
2018.

Oryanisational Structure
Colmcille Youth is a charlty adminlstered and managed in accordarkce with its constitution, by the
member5 of the Management Committee, constituted by clause 5 of the constitution. The
constitution was formally adopted on 6 June 2016 by the member5 at the Annual General Meeting.
Trustees, Responsibilities Statement
The tmstees are responsible for preparfng the Trustees, Annual Report and the Accounts in
accordance with applicable law.
The law applicable to charities in Northern Ireland requires the trustees to prepare financial
statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affalrs of the
charity and of the incorning resources and application of resources of the charity for that period
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable
accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the
accounts comply with the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 and the Charities (Account5 and
Reports) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015. They are also responsible for safeguarding the
assets of the charity and hence for tsking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of
fraud and other Ir￿g￿la￿tIeS.

We report on the accounts of the charlty for the year ended 31 August 2017 which are set out on
page 6 and 7.
Respective Responsibilities of Trustees and Independent Examiner
As the charity's Trustees, you are ￿sponsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance
wlth the requirements of the Charities Art (Northern Ireland) 2008. It is our responsibility to..
examine the accounts under sectlon 65 of the Charltles Act (Northern Ireland) 2008;
follow the procedures lald down in the general Direttions given by the Charity Commission
for Northern Ireland under sectlon 65(9)(bl of the Charitie5 Act (Northern Ireland) 2008;
and
state whether particular matters have come to our attention.
Basis of Independent Examinerfs Report
We have examined the charity's accounts as required under sertion 65 of the Charities Act
(Northern Ireland) 2008 and our examination was carried out in accordan￿ with the general
directbons given by the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland under settion 65(9){b) of the
Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008. The examinatlon Included a review of the accounting records
kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes
consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts. and seeklng explanatlons from
you as charity Trustees concerning any such matters.
Our role is to state whether any materfal matters have come to our attention giving us cause to
believe..
That accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 63 of the Charities ALt
{Northern Ireland) 2008; or
That the accounts do not accord with those accounting records,. or
That the accounts do not comply wlth the accountlng requlrements of the Charities Act
