Ac-vi-es for 2023 - 2024
Tullycarnet Ac-on Group Ini-a-ve Trust aims to relieve poverty, sickness and help the aged and to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of 'Tullycarnet and its environment (hereina@er described as "the area of benefit") without dis-nc-on of age, sex, race, poli-cal, religious or other opinion, by associa-ng the statuary authori-es, voluntary organisa-ons and the inhabitants in a common effort to advance educa-on, and to provide facili-es in the interests of social welfare for recrea-on or other leisure--me occupa-on, with the object of improving the condi-ons of life for the said inhabitants; as stated within our cons-tu-on.
To ensure we meet our aims TAGIT commiJee and volunteers have con-nued this year to facilitate and assist in the running of programs for the residents of Tullycarnet by providing support in the following areas:
Tullycarnet Boxing Club
Awarded 2022 Eastside award for Spor=ng Ini=a=ve of the year.
TAGIT have con-nued throughout 2023 / 24 to provide support to the management commiJee of our community boxing club. Tullycarnet Boxing club secured the Eastside award and the club coaches and commiJee aJended the awards ceremony in the Stormont hotel in 2023 to collect their award. Our greatest achievement was suppor-ng the club from planning to becoming opera-onal, to see the commiJee li@ an award for spor-ng ini-a-ve of the year speaks volumes for the hard work and dedica-on the club coaches and volunteers put in daily. Tullycarnet Boxing club have adopted the moto “train hard or go home” and the commiJee work hard with the community to ins-ll this ethos to its members.
Tullycarnet Community Football Club
TCFC 20[th] Birthday Gala Ball held in Oct 2023 in La Mon Hotel
Tullycarnet Community Football Club con-nues to receive support from TAGIT through educa-on, mental health and drug awareness training for the players and coaching staff at all ages and levels. Educa-ng the team around cyber security and bullying remains high with in the club especially around the adolescent age groups who use social media plaYorms daily. TCFC con-nues to thrive with the support of the community and parents of the younger genera-on. Home matches played at the moat park pitches and Hanwood o@en see great support from members of the community.
Tullycarnet Community July 2023
Wow! Tullycarnet know how to throw a fes-val, TAGIT con-nue to support and provide community ac-vi-es over the July period to ensure our culture con-nues to be celebrated and our young people learn our heritage. Again, with health and
safety being the focus when arranging all ac-vi-es including the ligh-ng of our bonfires. TAGIT worked closely with statutory agencies who engaged with our young people throughout the fes-vals.
Halloween Park in the Dark 2023
Another Spooktacular Halloween at our now annual Park in the Dark supported by Belfast City Council, This has now become a yearly event that all the family look forward too, with our volunteers braving the
cold October weather to ensure the whole community go home with a fright.
Christmas 2023
As Christmas 2023 approached, TAGIT volunteers again worked -relessly to organised some Christmas fes-ve fun for all the community to get involved. Christmas par-es, Games, Discos, Senior Ci-zens Christmas lunch and not forge`ng a visit from Santa. As with our Tullycarnet Christmas tradi-on TAGIT organised a tree of reflec-on in the community remembrance garden for families to place their Christmas baubles in remembrance of family members who are no longer with us.
As TAGIT con-nues to support the Tullycarnet community we must acknowledge the working rela-onships volunteers have with local statutory agencies including Police Service Northern Ireland, Belfast City Council, Northern Ireland Housing Execu-ve to name a few who support many of TAGITs yearly projects.
Future aims of TAGIT
TAGIT will con-nue to engage with statutory agencies to support local vulnerable residents of Tullycarnet including a huge focus on mental health support to men in par-cular. TAGIT have supported the set up and growth of a local men’s mental health group “Men’s Minds MaJer” which has around 70 male members who come together every Friday to have group sessions, food and just somewhere to go and people to be around who may also have challenges. This group has proved a great success and we look forward to suppor-ng them further.
Con-nue to work and engage with groups within Tullycarnet Neighborhood Collec-ve (TNC) whilst sharing funding opportuni-es to support all areas of the community.
