The principal activity of the charlty Is to promote the participation of women In
healthy recreation in the Belfast area.

The organ15atlon1s a charitable company limited by guarantee, Incorporated 24110106.
The company was established under a Memorandum of Assoclatlon which establlshed
the objects and powers of the charitable company and is governed under Its Articles of
Assoclatlon.
Board of Trustees
The management committee are also the charity trustees for the purposes of charlty law.
All tru5tee5 give their time voluntarlly and receive no benefits from the charlty.
Objectlves and Actlvities
The aim of the charltyls to promote the participation of women In the Belfasr area In
healthy actlvity.
Durlng thi5 reportlng perlod WISPA secured core fundlng from Public Healrh Agency and
programme funding from National Lotrery Community Fund Nl which enabled the
delivery of the MELT Project across Belfast and funding through Versus Arthriti5 for the
Move to Improve, Project. Our F.A.B. Project wa5 a150 extended intojuly 2022 with rhe
support of the National Lottery Community Fund Nl. Over the past vear we have delivered
97 community based programmes in total, working with a range of community partners
and organisations allowing us to work with 1,961 women who reside in the most socially
deprived area5 of Belfast. See monitoring Information below.
Covid-19 and the cost of livlng cri515 has made us continually look at our model of
delivery and how we can use our network5 and resources to have the be5f impact at
communlty level. We are contlnuously thlnking of innovatlve way5 of worklng of how we
deliver our work and communicate with the women Involved.

1,961 participants, of which 1,002 were returners who have
used our service before and continue to exercise on a weekly ba515. 959 were new to WISPA
classes.
47% of the women said they are now more aware of the benefits of physlcal actlvlty

91% of the women questioned said they would continue to exercise after our programmes
have ended and 9% 5ald maybe.
75% of the women said the project had Improved their mental health and well being

Some of the comments we received from the women participating included:
"Thls was a grear experlence. The programme impacted me differently than I thought
it would as origi nally l used it to be introduced to triathlon and to increase my
engagement in cardlo activlties. Since completlng the programme I have Improved
In all 3 d isciplines and completed my first 5k. l am more able to overcome the barriers
that make me stop when I ht rny discomforr zone. The programme was very well organised
and I wa5 able to attend with ease. Completlng the programme has made me feel
Ilke I have accomplSshed something and l am very proud of that .
'It provides an important women only space where they can exerclse without judgement and
with a great tralner,
"These projects really help with moblllty and menral health and allow me to meet other
people. I love that it IS so local.
Followlng the successful delivery of our programmes we recognlse our position as a
funded organlsatlon and the pressure It brings to contlnue the momentum of dellvery.
For thi5 reason, we are pro-actlve in identifying and sourcing future fundlng to ensure
that we can contlnue to dellver our programmes into 2023-2024
We are confident that we have achieved our overall aim to provide Increased
opportunities for women to access local community based programmes designed to
to cater for thelr need5. Through engagement wlth WISPA we hope to encourage Ilfestyie
changes whSch will impact on individual's health and wellbelng. We have developed
strong partnerships wlth a wide range of community based groupslprojects enabling
US to better Identify disengaged, sedentary women across the clty.
Looking back on the past year we have faced a lot of transition in the organisation. Audrey Barr
retired as Project Manager after 20+ years and Niamh O, Nelll has stepped Into her new role as
Project Manager. We have also recrulted new board members for WISPA whlch Is very excltlng and
we hope that the project can contlnue to move fonNard going from strength to strength.
Our financial performance has been in line wlth expectations. Total income has fallen. largely due
to the end of our Lottery funding. and we have reduced costs and used some of our reserves to
invest In programmes to ensure rhat we can continue to meet our objectives.

the Companies Act 2006. Having satlsfied myself that the charity is not subject to audit under
company law, and Is eligible for independent examination, it is my responsSblllty to-
examine the accounts under section 65 of the Charities Act

Charitles Act

I have examined your charity accounts as required under section 65 of the Charltles Act and mv
examination was carried out In accordance with the general Dlrections g iven by the Charity
Commlssion for Northern Ireland under section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act. The examlnation
Included a review of the accounting records kepr by the charity and a comparison of the accounts
presented with those records. It also Included consideration of any unusual Items or d Isclosures i
the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as charity trustees concerning any such
matters.
My role 15 to state whether any material matters have come fo my attention giving me cause to
believe:
l. That accounting records were not kept In accordance wlth sectlon 386 of the Companies Act
2006
2. Thar the accounts do not accord with those accounting records
3. That the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of sectlon 396 of the
Companies Act 2006 and with the methods and principles of the Charities Statement of
Recom mended Practice appllcable to charltles preparlng thelr accounts in accordance with

1.1 Accountlng convention
The financial statements are prepared under the historical cost convention.
with items recogni5ed at C05t or transaction value unless OthenNise stated in the
relevant note(s) to these accounts.
The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the Financial Reporting
Standard applicable in the UK (FRS 102) (effective January 2015). and the
requirements of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of
Recommended Practice appllcable to charities preparing their accounts In
accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK
(FRS 102) (effective January 2015) (Charities SORP 20 15 (FRS 102)> and
the Companies Act 2006.
The charity constitutes a publlc benefit entity as defined by FRS 102
1.2 Incoming resources
The charity accounts are prepared on a going concern basis.
Income 15 received by way of grants and payments for services and Is Included
in full in the Statement of Financial Activities when receivable. Gifts donated
for resale are included a5 income when they are sold. Donated assets are
included at the value to the charity where this can be quantified and a third
party is bearing the cost. The value of services provlded by volunteers has
not been included.
Grant5, including grants for the purchase of fixed assets, are recognlsed In
full in the Statement of Financial Activities in the year in which they are
recelvable.
1.3 Resource5 Expended
Resources expended are recognlsed in the year in which they are incurred.
Management and administration costs are those incurred in connection with
