Annual Report

The Charity operates a small rural community centre for the benefit of local residents in Scraghey, Castlederg Co Tyrone. The Centre was established with BiG Lottery Space and Place Funding. The Group identified the need to transform the space in 2012 when the Primary school closed down and the identity of the community was at risk as there was no facility left in the community.

The Group purchased the school and with the help of BIG Lottery funding transformed it into a new community facility opened in 2016. The Centre has progressed good relations, cross border cooperation, increased capacity, utilised under used derelict space and created a sense of community.

Services provided in the Centre include a range of social activities for young and old including social dances, cards, yoga, gymnastics, and hire of facility for private hire. Since opening the Centre has been heavily used with weekly activities. Over 2000 people have visited the Centre since opening.

The community received £350,000 from the Big Lottery-funded Space and Place Programme to turn the classrooms into a large community hall, a cosy room with a stove, a new kitchen and a meeting room.

The group and community is delighted with the transformation and said the centre will become a new focal point for all sections of the community.
