are applied lo particular categories of income."
income from donations or grants is recognised when there is evidence of entillemenl lo the
gift, receipt is probable and ils amount can be measured reliably.
legacy income is recognised when receipt is probable and entiuement is established.
income from donated gcx)ds is measured at the fair value of the goods unless this is
impractical to measure reliably, in which case the value is derived from the cost to the donor
or the estimated resale value. Donated facilities and services a￿ recognised in the

the contribution of general volunteers.
income Irom contracts for the supply of services 15 recognised with the delivery of the

An increase in the carrying amount of an asset as a result of a revaluation, is recogni5ed in other
recognised gains and losses, unless it reverses a charge for impaimienl that has previously been
reeognised as expenditure within the statement of financial acb"vities. A decrease in the carrying
amount of an asset as a result of revaluation, is recognisetj in other recognised gains and losses,
except to which il offsets any previous revaluation gain, in wh￿ch case the Ioss is shown within
other recogr>ised gains and losses on the ststemenl of financial activities.

Impairment of fixed assets
A ￿VIeW for indicators of impaimient is carried out al each reporting dale, with the recoverable
amount being eslirnaled where such indicalots exist Where the carrying value exceeds the
recover8b5e amount. the asset is impaired accordingly. Prior impairments are also reviewed lor
possible reversal at each reporting date.
For the purposes of impairment testsng, when it is not possible lo estimate the recoverable
amount of an individual asset, an estimate is made of the recoverable amount of the
cash-generating unil lo which the asset belongs. The cash-generaling unit is the smallest
identifiable group of assets that includes the asset and generates cash inflows that largely
independent of the cash Inflows from other assets or groups of assets.
For impairment testFng of goodwill, the goodwill acquired in a business eombination Is, from the
acquisition date, allocated lo each of the ca5h-generaling units that are expected lo benefit from
the synergies of the combination. irrespective of whether other assets or liabilib.es of the charity
are assigned lo those units.
Financial instruments
A financial asset or a Iinancial liability is recognised only when the charity becomes 8 party lo the
conlraclual provisions of the instrument.
Basic financial instruments are initially recognised al the amount receivable or payable inclyding
any related transaction costs.
Current assets and current liabilities are 5ubsequenlty measured at the cash or other
consideration expected lo be paid or received and not discounted.
Debt instruments are 5ubsequenUy measured at amottised cosL
Where investments in shores are publicly traded or their fair value can otherwise be measured
reliably, the investment is subsequently measured at fair value with changes in fair value
recognised in income and expendrture. All other such investments are subsequently measured al
cost less impairment.

Financial instruments {cortlinuedJ
Other finaneial inslrumenls, incl4Jding derivatives, are initially recogni5ed al fair value, unless
payment for an asset is deferred beyond normal business tenns Of financed at a rale of interest
that is not a market rate. in which case the asset 15 measured al the present value of the future
payments discounted al a market rate of interest for a similar debt instrument.
Other financial instruments are subsequently measured al fair value, with any changes
recognised in the sialemenl of financial acb"vilies. with the exception of hedging instruments in a
designated hedging relationship_
Financial assets that are measured al cost or amorb.sed cost are reviewed for objective eviden¢e
of impaimenl at the end of each reporting dale. If there is objects.ve evidence of impairment, an
impaimenl loss is recognised under the appropriate heading in the statement of financial
activities in which the inib.al gain was recognised.
For all equity instruments regardless of S￿nIfiCanCe, and other financial assets that are
individually significant, these are assessed individually for impaimient. Other financial assets are
either assessed individually or grouped on the basis of similar credit risk characteristics.
Any reversals of impairment are recognised immediately, to the exlenl that the reversal does not
result in a carrying amount of the financial asset that exceeds what the carrying amount would
have been had the impaiment not previousty been recognised.
Defined contribution plan$
Contributions to defined e0ntn.but￿n plans ale recognised as an expense in the period in which
the related service is provided. Prepaid conlribulions are recognised as an asset to the exlenl
that the prepayment will lead to a reduction in future payments or a cash refund
When conlribukn'ons are not expected lo be settled wholly within 12 months of the end of the
reporting dale in which the employees render the related service, the liability is measured on
discounted present value basis. The unwinding of the discount is reeognised as an expense in
the period in which it arises.
