The SocieVs purpose is to provide education aimed at promotin& sustaining and increasing
individual and collective knowledge and understanding of horticulture, gardening and the
environment in the Portadown and surrounding area. The meetings were well attended and are
summarised below:
April: Sean McAlinden gave a very interesting talk about making the most of garden produce from a
small garden using pots. containers and rai*d beds.
Ortober. Neill Porteous Neill explained the significance of . Annes Grove" in Co Cork, the former
home of the Anne51ey farnily since the 16(K)s. and the work being done to ensure the garden'5 legacy
has a dynamic future.
November: "Putting down roots at Rowallane". Claire McNally tslked about her many challenges
as new head gardener at the National Trust Garden at Rowallane. County Down
December: A Christmas Lunch was held at -Sinton's at the 8ridge-. Scarva
January: "From Seed to Vase- Charlene McKinstry of Gracehill Flowers in Loughgall, gave us an
interesting talk about the famlly run farm, specialising in flowers fresh from the field.
February: "Art and Arthitecture in the Gardens of the World"_A talk bv Trevor Edwards. an award-
winnTng garden designer, writer and broadcaster. who has led many garden tours throughout the
world and organtses the National Gardens Scheme in Northern Ireland.

March: Sean McAlinden visited us again and this time his subject was -Plant Propagation: Grow
your garden for fre￿ Sean. who runs courses in Leisure Gardening at Southem Regional Colleges.
demonstrated his wealth of practical experien￿ to members.

The Socievs accounts demonstrated that the financial performance for the year ended 31 March
2024 was satisfactory and the reserves at year end were adequate to meet the anticipated
expenditure in the incoming year.
