FORUM IN OMAGH FOR COMMUNITY UNDERSTANDING AND SUPPOR T 2025 CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT FOCUS
CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT JIM SHARKEY, CHAIRPERSON
It is my pleasure, as Chairperson of FOCUS, to present this report for the year 2025–2026. This has been a year of significant progress, strong delivery, and continued commitment to supporting communities across the Fermanagh and Omagh district.
FOCUS has once again demonstrated its vital role within the Community and Voluntary sector. Through our core funding from the Department for Communities, we have continued to provide essential support to local groups, ensuring they are equipped with the resources, governance structures, and confidence needed to deliver services effectively within their communities.
A key highlight of the year has been the successful delivery of the We Care Project. This programme has made a meaningful difference to the lives of carers, providing not only practical skills and training, but also creating opportunities for connection, peer support, and improved wellbeing. The positive feedback from participants highlights the importance of this work and reinforces the need for continued investment in supporting carers.
We have also seen strong progress in building the capacity of local organisations. Through training in areas such as digital skills, hybrid working, and governance, FOCUS has helped groups adapt to changing demands and operate more effectively. The provision of practical support, including equipment and administrative assistance, has further strengthened the sustainability of many organisations.
Our volunteers continue to play an essential role in the success of FOCUS. Their contribution across a wide range of events and activities has enhanced community life, supported service delivery, and demonstrated the strength of local commitment and active citizenship.
FOCUS has maintained a strong presence at a strategic level, ensuring that the voices of our communities are represented in key forums and partnerships. Our involvement in Neighbourhood Renewal, Community Planning structures, and the PEACEPLUS Partnership reflects our commitment to influencing policy and shaping services in a way that reflects real community need.
We are particularly encouraged by our success in securing the PEACEPLUS programme, “I Want You to Know About Me.” The work completed to date has laid a solid foundation for future delivery, with extensive engagement and partnership building ensuring that the programme is inclusive, responsive, and impactful.

This year also saw the organisation strengthen its infrastructure through relocation within Omagh Community House, creating improved facilities and a dedicated resource space for our members. This investment will support our work for years to come.
This year also marks a significant transition within the organisation. On behalf of the Board, I would like to extend our sincere thanks to Conor Keys, who steps down as Network Coordinator after 22 years of dedicated service. Conor has been instrumental in the development and growth of FOCUS, providing strong leadership, commitment, and a deep understanding of the community and voluntary sector. His contribution over more than two decades has left a lasting legacy, and he has been widely respected for his professionalism, passion, and unwavering support for local groups. We wish him every success in the future and thank him for his outstanding service.
At the same time, I would like to warmly welcome Ryan Tracey as the new Network Coordinator. Ryan brings enthusiasm, experience, and a strong commitment to the values of FOCUS. The Board looks forward to working with him as the organisation continues to grow and evolve, and we wish him every success in his new role.
As Chairperson, I would also like to acknowledge the dedication and professionalism of the staff team, whose commitment continues to drive the organisation forward. I extend my thanks to my fellow Board members for their guidance and support, and to our funders and partners for their continued trust in FOCUS.
Looking ahead, we recognise that demand for our services continues to grow. However, I am confident that FOCUS is well placed to meet these challenges, building on strong foundations, effective partnerships, and a clear commitment to supporting our communities.
Finally, I would like to thank all of our members, volunteers, and the wider community for their ongoing support and engagement. It is through this collective effort that FOCUS continues to make a positive and lasting difference.
