Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland" and Accr)unting and Reporting by Charities..
Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their financial statements in accordance with
the Financial Reporting Standard applicab18 in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 102).

The main objective of the charity is to promote the study and practice of choral music in order lo foster public
knowledge and appreciation of such music by th8 presentalion of concerts and other a￿1VitieS for the people in
Northem Ireland.
The aclivilies undertaken during the year by NYCNI induded school workshops, residential music ￿urSes, master
classes and concerts.

R•vSew of Actlvltles. Achievements and Performaneè
In the 12 month period to 31 March 2024 NYCNI artistic aclivty continued to develop and expand.
In April 2023 seventy-six girts attended the Girls, Choir course. directed by ANJrew Nunn and for 2023 the course was
expanded from three to lour days. At the same time the first Boys, Choir course took place over thr88 days. This is
new choir, aimed al younger boys aged 8 10 12 and forty-seven boys look part under the direction of Alison McN&ll.
The cYJurses culminated with a short concert featuring progfammes from each choir and a joint finale.
In July 2023 NYCNI delivered thre8 choral courses at Campbell College. A lolal of 243 young singers attended. The
senior and training choir Cciurses wer8 led by Artistic Director Andrew Nunn while the junior choir was conducted by
Alison McNeill. The Senior and Training Choir courses were both for seven days and w8re residential, while the
Junior Choir was for five days and non-residential. Each course finished with a concert. The Junior and Training Choir
concerts look place in Campbell College while the Senior Choir concert was in St George's Church in Belfast.
80￿een October 2023 and March 2024 NYCNI deliv8r8d school workshops and open audllion sessions across
Northern Ireland lor the 2024 summer ￿Urse$ and the Gir15' and Boys, Choir Easter courses.
The AGM was held on 12 December 2023. Six full board meetings were held during the during the yèar.
Flnan¢lal R¢sull•
The iesults are set out on pages 9 and 10. NYCNI had a nel oulgolng resource for the 12 month financial perlod lo 31
March 2024 of £54,033. Following a prior decision to appoint a part time Chief Executive fvnded Irom reserves in the
first year, Ihe direclors anlicipaled a loss for the year to 31 March 2024. However, during the year the company had a
signlfScanl employee issue which necessilaled additional expenditure in the form of salary tsjsts and legal and
professional fees. This resulted In the reported loss for the year and a reductj'on in unrestricted reserves to £16.324.

The Directors, policy in relation to unreslricled reserves is to maintain a level of reserves to protect the company
against unexpected addilional costs or reductions in incom8. The Directors consider that an appropriale largel level is
betwe&n thfee and six months normal recurring expenditure. CLtrrenlly behveen £20,000 and £40,000. At 31 March
2024, unrestricted reserves are £16,324. which ts fess than target.

The National Youlh Choir of Northern Ireland INYCNII is governed by a Board ol Dlreclors which delegales

Durlng Ihe 8nnu81 courses, NYCNI also engages Ihè s8Nices of conductors, a team of section coaches for sopranos,
contrallos, tenors and basses. vocal lulors as well as a team of welfare personnel.

GENERAL INFORMATION
National Youth Choir of Northern Ireland is a company limrted by guarantee. incorporated in Northern Ireland.
The address of the regislered office is given in the charity infomialion on page 3 of these financial slalements.
The nature of the charity's operations and pnncipal activities are to promote the study and practic8 of choral
Music in order lo foster public knowledge and appreciation of such music by Ihe pre5entalion of concerts and
other aclivits'es.
SUMMARY OF SIGNIFICANT ACCOUNTING POLICIES
The following accounting policies have been applied consislenlly in dealing with items which are considered
material in relalion lo the charity's financial statements.
Slatsmènt of compllance

Sialemenl of Recommended Practice applicable lo chaiilies pr8parin9 their accounts in ac(x)rdance with Ihe
Financial Reporting Siandard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 102) {effective 1 January
2019) - {Charity SORP (FRS 102)), the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the Uniled Kingdom and
Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021. the Companies Act 2006 and UK Generally Ac¢epted Accounting Practice.
The charity has applied Update Bullelln 1 as published on 2 February 2016 and does not include a cash flow
slatemenl on the grounds il is applying FRS 102 Section 1 A.
The finanGial slatements have been prepared under the historical cost convention. The financial slalements
are presented in Sterling which is Ihe functsonal currency ol Ihe charity and rounded to the nearest £1.
The significanl a¢¢ounling policies applied in the preparation of these financial slalemenls are sel out below.
These policies have been consistently applied to all years presented unless othe￿ise slated.

The company has availed of the exemption in FRS 102 from Ihe reqU1￿ment to produce a cash flow
slalemenl because il is classified as a small company.

All incoming resoufces are included in Ihe Statement of Financial Activities {SoFAI when the charity is legally
enlilled to the income after any performance conditions have been met, Ihe amount can be measured reliably
and it is probable that the incomè will be recelved.
For donations to be recognised the charity will have been notified of the amounts and th8 settlement dale in
writing. If there are conditions attached to the donation and this requires a level of performance before
enlillemenl Can be obtained.. then income is deferred until those conditions are fully mel or Ihe fulfilment of
those condlllons is within the ￿ntrol of the chailly and il is probable Ihal they will be fulfilled.
Donated fa¢ililies and donated professional services are recognised in income at their fair valu8 when their
economic benefil is probable. it can be measured reliably, and the charity has control over the item. Fair value
is determined on the basis of the value of the gift lo the charity. For example, the amount the charity would be
willing lo pay in the open market for such facilities and services. A corresponding amount is recognised in
expenditure.
No amount is included In the financlal statements for volunleer timej in line with the SORP (FRS 102).
Where placlicable. gifts in kind donated for distribution lo the beneficiaries of Ihe chartly are included in stock
and donations in the financial slalemenls upon receipt. If il is Impracticable lo assess the fair value al receipt
or if the costs lo undertake such a valuation oulweigh any benefits. then Ihe fair value is recognised as
component of donations when il is distributed and an equivalent amount recognised as charitable expenditure.
Incomé from Irading activities inclufles incomé earn8d from fundraising events and trading activities lo raise
funds for the charity. Income is received in ex¢h8nge lor supplying goods and servic85 In order lo rais8 funds
and is recognised when entillemenl has occurred.
Donations and Grants are credited lo the SOFA in the year in which they were receivable.
ReJour¢•g Exponded
All expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classlfSed under headlngs that aggregate
811 cosls related lo the category. Expenditure is recognised where there is a legal or conslruclive obligation lo
make payments'lo third parties, il is probable that the settlement will be required and the arnounl of the
obligation Can be measured reliably. Irrecoverable VAT is charged as an exp8nse against Ihe activity lor
which expenditure arose.
Support costs are those that a5sisI Ihe woth of the charity bul do not directly iepresenl charitable aclivilies
and include office costs, governance costs, and administrative payroll costs. They are inCUr￿d directly in
support of expenditure on the objects of the charity. Where support costs cannot be directly allribuled lo
particular headings. they have been allocaled lo cosl of raisin9 funds and expenditure on charitable aclivilies
on a basis consislenl with use ol tho resources.
Muslc
Prior lo 30 November 2002, the music was sold lo members. Up lo 1 December 2005. purchased music was
charged lo Ihe Profit & Loss accounl as an expense and stock was held in the UYC Music Library. The music
Is valuable in that il can be used again, hI￿d lo other Youth Choirs and Can be sold. Accordingly in 2006, Ihe
Board agreed to capitalis8 all music over £200 per rtems with an initial depreciab'on of 50% and a further 10%
annually ther8after.
I￿•Coverable value added tax
As Ihe company Is not regislered for VAT, any irrecoverable VAT is charged lo the siat8menl of finanaal
activities or capilalised as part of the cost of the related assel, wh8re appropriale.
Stocks
Stocks are slated at the lower of cost and eslimaled selllng price less costs lo complete and sell. Cost
includes all costs of purchase, costs of conversion and olher costs incurred in bringing slock lo Ils pr8sent
location and condition. Cost is calculated using the firsl-in. first￿Ul formula. Provision is made for
damaged, obsolete, and slow-moving stock where appropriate.

Penslons
The company operates a defined contribution pension scheme for employees. The assets of the scheme are
held separately from Ihose of the company. Annual contributions payable lo the company's pension scheme
are charged lo the incL*me and expendlture account in the period lo which they r8lale.
GOING CONCERN
The company has suffered a significant loss for the year and unrestricted r8seNes have lallen below target
levels, However there is a break even budg8t for Ihe year lo 31 March 2025 and the Direclors plan lo rebuild
reserves in the coming years. The D1￿clOr8 have p￿Pared cash flows, which indicate that the company will
be able lo meet ils liabilities as they fall due for a period of 12 months from the dale of signing the accounts.
While Ihe company continuos lo be dependenl on lunding from the Arts Council Nl, the directors do nol
consid8r that there is a slgnificant doubl about the ability of the company lo continue as a going Concern and
eccordlngly have prepared these accounts on a going concern basis.
