Annual report: Chairperson report to Committee.
As always, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Committee and the volunteer staff of Cairde for the generosity and support they have given over the past year. I would also, at this time, like to thank Ciaran who was the recent Chair and had to stand down because of ill health for his support throughout the year.
Supporting families thru’ illness small donation fund
The past few years has been a challenging time for many families and friends as the client group we serve, has grown older and many are in failing health, an unfortunate part of life. Nevertheless, the committee has continued to support comrades and their families were possible, especially in times of illness. The primary method of assistance has been in the form of transport support which when travelling to and from hospital is an immense aid to many families.
Cultural donation fund.
We have also been engaged in the supporting of several local sporting, musical and cultural bodies across the district with the creation of the Robbie Winters’ Cultural fund. This cultural fund, in Robbie’s name offer, a small donation of £500.00 to local community-based organisation for the sole purpose of supporting children “learning” activities. This small initiative has been very well received by the local bodies and the wider community. In many ways it is giving back to the community by enhancing the health and welfare of the youth of our community.
Outreach.
Cairde continues to encourage and support its member to avail of numerous health and wellbeing programmes aimed at improving and maintaining positive mental and physical health across the district as well as organising our own. Earlier in the years, Cairde had a very highly successful Irish night of entertainment in the memory of two former members and these events were very well attended and a great night had by all.
Memorial presentation event
In July and December last, Cairde purchased two crystal vases in memory of two late comrades and these were presented by committee members to the immediate families in their fond memory. Both these small but significant presentations were very much appreciated by the families concerned.
In summary, it is the intention of the Committee to continue to engage; to continue to work at enhancing the well-being of our client base, while continuing to participate in any and all outreach events across our community which facilitates cooperation and enhances opportunities.
