be known as the "Limavady and District War Memorial ' for the purpose of
perpetuating the memory of those persons from the Urban and Rural Districts of
Limavady who gave their lives for their country in the Great War and commemorating
the action of those who volunteered for active service therein and applying the fund
for the benefit of inhabitants of the Town and District of Limavady by providing for
their recreation. instruction and mental and physical improvement and development
as might be thought best.
The Trust is governed by a Trust Deed dated 9th February 1922. The power to
appoint new trustees is vested in the Trustees.
During the year the following served as Trustees and were Trustees at the date this
Report was approved:_
James Barr
Edward Arthur Harry Boyle
Richard Douglas
James Donald Forrest
Rev. Canon Samuel Mcveigh
Ernest Norris
At the end of the year the Trust held funds of £41,764 and had no liabilities.
During the year the Trustees ensured the continued availability to the public of
access to the War Memorial and the Memorial Garden in Limavady. Work was
carried out to relocate the 1914-1918 War Memorial Stone from the car park of the
United Services Club to the War Memorial Garden.
The continued availability to the public of access to the War Memorial and the
Memorial Garden in Limavady provided a benefit to the relatives of people from the
Town and District of Limavady who served in the Great War and subsequent
conflicts. The Trustees accept that a private benefit may have arisen to Trustees
who are themselves relatives of people who served in the Great War and subsequent
conflicts but this was incidental to the public benefit provided.
The Trustees had regard to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland's guidance
on public benefit.
