OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Significant activities and Public benefit
Femianagh Genealogy Centre's committee continues to hold monthly meetings and minutes are recorded by the
secretsry. inclusive of financial reports. These meetings ale facilitated online through use of Zoom and are chaired by
Frankie Roofe. Regarding our members'lpublic meetings. the online Zoom feature has greatly appealed to our overseas
members and FGC has seen a significant rise in membership. The use of monthly bullelins from the secretary helps keep
the membership infonned of developments.
We continue to be the Genealogical Heritage provider in Fennanagh for Fermanagh and Omagh District Council and are
grateful for their annual grant. We meet with FODC'S designated representatives on a quarterly basis and provide a
review of our activities and expenditure.
Without doubt the highlight of 2022 for FGC was its launch of the 'Back Streets-Dardanelles' memory map in October.
This project was fvnded through the Heritage Lottery Fund. facilitated through its Fernianagh organ, Lough Eme
Landscape Partnership. This drew in good numbers at our launch and we are very proud of this project which we know
will keep alive this once vibrant area of Enniskillen. Responses from viewers have been very positive, as was our
co-operation with the Inniskillings Military Museum who assisted us with inforniation on the First World Wai dead from
the Back Streets. This online memory map is available to view on our website and is free to all.
OUT www.fennanaghgenealogy.org website offers members access to recordings of our talks, as well as access to articles
published by our membership. The technical side of FGC'S affairs is expertly managed by Mary-Anne Grant.
Enniskillen Castle Museum put on an exhibition of FGC'S project on the tK>ftus-Tottenham family from Ely Lodge,
County Fern]anagh. This had earlier been postponed due to Covid restrictions. This gave visitors from near and far an
experience of FGC'S research.
Covid restrictions yet again prevented Face to Face meetings at our Enniskillen Castle hub. It is our intention to hold
these again in 2023, dependent on circumstances. Our transcription teams continuned to transcribe National School
records but a major development was our assisting Enniskillen Castle Musuem with transcription of their Enniskillen
Work House records.
Each year we invite a 'special' guest speaker as a highlight to our Talks Programrne. In April 2022 Enzo Fartnella.
fornierly an Italian Papal envoy to Ireland, gave a superb presentation on 'lrish Christian missionaries, with a focus on
Fennanagh,.
The summer annual trip was hosted in June with 15 rnernbers taking part. Commencing with a boat tour around
Enniskillen and followed by a walking tour of the town, the event concluded with a meal in the Taphouse.
Ow AGM was held on Saturday I lth June 2022. Regarding our COTnmittee, Dave McNulty stood down as both a
Trustee and Committee meTnber. Karen Ireson relinquished her role as Volunteer Co-ordinator but remained as our Face
Book manager, alongside Linda Swindle. Caroline Fitzpatrick took over as Volunteer co-ordinator and also Membership
co-ordinator. She also acts as our bookkeeper assisting Frankie. our Honordry Treasurer. I continued as Secretary and
Vivienne Carson did so as Policie5 co-ordinator and Entertainments Officer. Mary-Anne Grant continued as Technical
Officer.
Our Fern]anagh Roots Journal Issue 2 reached a landmark with its sale surpassing 300 copies.
