This annual report covers the PTA’s financial year from 1 October 2018 to 30 September 2019.

The trustees have had regard to the Commission’s Public benefit requirement statutory guidance.

Aims & Purposes

The PTA is made up of parents of the children, residents in the community and staff of the school who make up the Committee. All parents of the nursery and primary school units, past and present are encouraged to become actively involved, to assist running a calendar of events and supply the volunteer manpower which is required. As a committee we always evaluate and monitor events or initiatives which we run to ensure that they are as successful as possible and to gauge the opinion of the children and the adults to keep all actively informed. The PTA feed into the school newsletter which is circulated monthly and update the website with PTA information on a regular basis. The PTA work alongside the local community to assist with initiatives such as Green Flag status and our Eco Garden which is a community facility. Templepatrick PTA retains close links with the PTA - Northern Ireland to inform and update them.

Purpose 1: Improved relationships between home and school

The benefit which flows from this purpose includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community.

This is demonstrated through having an active PTA that works in partnership with the school and engages parental support.

This purpose does not lead to harm.

The benefit is for children at Templepatrick Primary School.

Report on Activities

First of all, THANK YOU – thank you to all those who came to the meetings, who baked, who turned up and helped out, who made trips to the shops, who phoned, begged, borrowed, scrounged, twisted arms up backs, created spread-sheets, typed letters, photocopied, made teas, chased things up etc. THANK YOU. To say thank-you really doesn’t quite seem enough. It’s been a huge team effort to fundraise this money for our school whilst trying to keep everything fun and in keeping with our school ethos. Please feel duly delighted and proud of yourselves.

As you know, the main function and role of the PTA is to raise money. This money is no longer used for the nice things that it used to be 10 or 12 years ago but unfortunately it is being used to fund the essential items a school needs to function. Therefore, in the current financial and educational climate the role of PTA is becoming increasingly more important as we strive to provide the best educational experiences for the children of this school.

We started the year with an opening account balance of £5,055 following another busy year in 2017/2018. We have been able to continue funding the “normal” bills which the PTA funds have been used for over the past few years.

Thanks to the elected office bearers this year: Anita O’Connell, Caroline Britton-Hall, Julie McDowell, Christine Erskine and Judy Graham for volunteering as elected representatives to our PTA committee.

It’s been a huge team effort to fundraise this money for our school whilst trying to keep everything fun and in keeping with our school ethos. It really couldn’t happen without you.

Recap of Activities and Events 2018-2019

Healthy Eating Day October 2018 : parents washed and prepared platters of fruit & veg (and breadsticks) for all classes to enjoy. Children were asked to donate £1 to contribute to costs for 2 healthy eating days for the school year.

Halloween Disco : the disco and light show was again provided by Skip Alexander. The children danced the night away with PTA providing a few spot prizes for some awesome dance moves and costumes. Again, the nursery school joined us and this proved to be a great success. The PTA tuckshop was as ever a huge success.

Non-Uniform days : we are probably now calling this “Christmas Jumper Day” instead of non-uniform day and it’s such a hit throughout the whole school. Again, it coincided with the school Christmas dinner, adding to the festive atmosphere in school.

Christmas Performance : refreshments were provided at all performances with lots of fab baking from PTA members. The DVD was created by Mr Alcorn and although orders were down from last year we still made a small surplus from sales.

Christmas Cards : the children all drew a picture which was made into a Christmas card. Parents had the chance to purchase these. This was planned a lot earlier than the previous year and raised almost £500.

Christmas Fair : we are lucky to say this event was once again well supported by our children and their families. Thanks to the choir for their lovely performances. Again, we were well supported by local businesses who provided a huge list of prizes for our raffle.

Christmas parties & discos: the Nursery and P1 to P4 children all enjoyed a party during school time, with a special visit from Santa who gave them all a few sweet treats. The DJ played tunes for the parties and at the evening disco for P4 to P7 children. The PTA tuckshop was well stocked and once again the older children loved buying their own treats.

Quiz night: Following on from the success of the previous year’s quiz this was once again a popular event and raised £865 – well done to all involved in organising the quiz.

Car Ballot : a new and innovative event organised by the PTA this year was the balloting of a new car. Thanks to Julie McDowell for linking with Charles Hurst Belfast to provide a car for this ballot and for all the hard work and effort in selling the required number of tickets by Julie and all volunteers involved in this event which was a great success!

Brown Money week : the children brought in their coppers during the week. Every year we wonder if this idea should be retired, but the inter-class competition is very strong! This event continues to raise a fantastic sum of money.

Lions May Ball: This year the Antrim Lions Club approached the PTA to be their chosen charity for the proceeds from their May Ball. Members of the PTA played a large part in the organization and decoration for the event. The evening was a huge success and was enjoyed by all.

P7 Performances: PTA refreshments provided on both nights with the PTA member volunteers getting a free seat at the show. Photos were once again available to order on the night.

Bag Pack Event @ Asda: Thanks to Anita O’Connell for liaising with ASDA Ballyclare to secure us this slot. This year the bag pack was hugely successful and raised over £1,000.

Sports Day: we contacted Spar Templepatrick to ask for their continued sponsorship of Sports Day. They provided water for all children. PTA provided a TPS Lanyard (Thanks to Mrs Brittan-Hall for sourcing and very kindly paying) for all children. Our PTA Refreshments stall was well received.

Summer Fair : we were able to have a Summer Fair this year which was highly enjoyed by all. Some new stalls were added and the BBQ was as usual very popular.

P1 & Nursery Induction Evenings: we provided refreshments to the parents. Thank you to Anita for making the speeches and drumming up lots of support.

P7 Leavers Evening: this year the P7 event moved to Breckenhill. The children took part in some outdoor activities, with hotdogs, refreshments and treats. Thanks to all those who supported and participated in this very important event for our P7 children.

Matched Funding by Santander: it’s safe to say the matched funding applications with Santander have provided an extraordinary amount of money during the last school year.

Easy Fundraising : the PTA is registered on the easy fundraising website and with a number of families and friends using the website this year, we have received a small percentage of spending into our account.

Financial Review

The Charity raised income of £50,745 and had expenditure of £29,260 in the year, giving a net income of £21,517 which is a hugely successful year and gives the PTA the opportunity to move into the 2019/2020 school year with a strong reserves level of £26,589.

I report on the accounts of the PTA for the year ended 30 September 2019 as set out on pages 9 to 10.

Respective responsibilities of charity trustees and examiner

As the charity’s trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008.

It is my responsibility to:

Basis of independent examiner’s report

I have examined your charity accounts as required under section 65 of the Charities Act and my examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland under section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act.

My examination included a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also included consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as charity trustees concerning any such matters.

My role is to state whether any material matters have come to my attention giving me cause to believe:

  1. That accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 63 of the Charities Act

  2. That the accounts do not accord with those accounting records

  3. That the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act

  4. That there is further information needed for a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
