ETC Club Annual Report 2022/23
Annual Report for year end March 2023
The trustees and facilitators of The ETC Club are happy to submit their annual report and accounts for the period April 1[st] 2022 to March 31[st] 2023.
The club engaged in a range of activities during this period, detailed as follows:-
-
Belfast Hills Partnership – staff from Belfast Hills provided educational virtual walks at various locations which are important for the biodiversity maintenance in Belfast. Club members really enjoyed these sessions and enjoyed seeing birdseye views of areas they have enjoyed walking through in the past.
-
We were successful in receiving funding from the Arts Council NI to produce artwork which highlighted community inclusion and involvement. Members set about brainstorming and came up with the idea of a wall mural at our base building. Once we had the green light from the Belfast City Council we partnered with a company called Ace Spray Works, who specialise in murals and community art projects. Our members helped design and produce our final wall mural which promoted our cause and community engagement. We even featured in the monthly newsletter from the BHSCT which we are all very proud of.
-
Some of our members participated in an arts and crafts course with Arts For All for 10 weeks. Members enjoyed the creativity and engaging with the tutors to help produce various works of art which were displayed on location.
-
Olympia Leisure Centre Better Gym – members continued health and fitness routines using our gym membership to use the gym facilities.
-
Weekly Science experiments – staff members assisted club members in carrying out simple and fun science experiments such as lava lamps and coke fountains. We had a lot of fun carrying out these experiments.
-
Health & Wellbeing Team – staff members from the health and wellbeing team provided live and interactive body and movement sessions via Zoom for the group which was greatly appreciated.
-
Arts Care – we engaged with the resident dance instructor from Arts Care who took our members for weekly dance and movement sessions. Members thoroughly enjoy this activity and are very proud to perform at various shows such as the Christmas show at Knockbracken and board meetings.
-
I Can Cook It – healthy eating course
-
Adopt a spot – members wanted to help out in our community and decided to sign up to the Adopt a Spot initiative which supports litter picking in a chosen area through the ‘live here love here’ programme.

-
We received funding from the John Moore’s Foundation to purchase new merchandise for our members. This included hoodies, polo shirts and beanies which were all embroidered with our club crest. We supported another charity, Orchardville Works, who specialise in clothing and embroidery, to complete the work. Our members were delighted with their new merchandise which they all wear with pride, promoting our club and promoting inclusion.
-
Community Sports Network – we continued to work in partnership with colleagues at Community Sports Network who took us for 6 week sessions of various sports activities. Members gain a lot of health and wellbeing from the sessions and thoroughly enjoy the competitiveness.
-
Streetwise Community Circus – provided our members with some funding sessions focusing on coordination and multi-tasking through juggling & hat skills.
-
Community Arts Partnership – our friends at CAP offered us some funded arts and crafts sessions, focusing on fine art and also felt making.
-
OTRC 40[th] Anniversary – Club members were invited to this event to celebrate the longevity of Orchardville Day Centre, to which we are closely affiliated with. Members who attended had a wonderful evening.
-
Members also engaged in recreational activities throughout the year, to include bowling, walks, cookery, museum visits, allotment visits, spacewalk at the Transport Museum, cancer focus information day, farm visits and an outing to the dream machine for an enhanced audio-visual immersive experience.
-
Social Media – the group continued to put our club on the map through social media by posting various videos and pictures of what we get up to as a club. We received a lot of comments and positive feedback from family and friends through social media, which is great platform to showcase what we get up to, interact with the local community, reducing discrimination towards our members and promoting inclusivity.
-
The club received a kind donation from the family of a previous service user which was used towards the club and activities throughout the year. The club and its members continue to fundraise as and when throughout the year.
Membership
The number of current members attending the ETC Club is 11. The ETC Club remains unregulated by the regulatory body Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA), but instead with the Charitable Commission Northern Ireland only.
Up and coming projects
Club members and facilitators hope to begin fundraising by completing the 2023 Belfast City Marathon Team Relay. We have also applied for funding through Clear Projects for a health, wellbeing and mindfulness project in partnership with Equine Facilitated Learning. We will continue to engage with our regular partners throughout the year.
