Trustee Report 2022/23

Aims and Purposes

Derry / Donegal Christian Fellowship Trustees have the responsibility for the oversight of the Church in co-operation with the current Pastor, Barry Rogers, in promoting the whole mission of the Church, pastoral, evangelical, social and ecumenical.

The Trustees also hold responsibility for the maintenance of the Church Building at 9 Northland Road, Derry, BT48 7HY.

Objectives and Activities

The Trustees are committed to providing ongoing opportunities for as many people as possible to worship at our Church, and to become Church members should they so desire. Our weekly services, meetings and worship are open to the public, as is the Church building on certain week days and evenings for the services of pastoral care, youth groups and outreach into the surrounding communities. Through these activities we aim to put faith into practice through prayer, scripture, music and Christian acceptance and support.

When planning our activities for the year, the Trustees along with the Pastor have considered the Commission’s guidance on public benefit, and in particular, the specific guidance on charities for the advancement of religion. In particular we try to enable ordinary people to live out their faith as part of our community through:

In order to continue this work it is important to keep and maintain the Church building and appoint certain roles which receive payment in the form of salary (Pastor) and hourly pay (support workers).

Achievements and Performance

Worship and Prayer

The Trustees and Pastor ensure the provision of a range of services during the course of the week and over the course of the year that our community find both beneficial and spiritually fulfilling. In doing so we seek to provide a welcoming environment where people of all ages and from all

backgrounds can attend and share both worship and Christian Fellowship. Our range of services include weekly prayer meetings, bible study courses, Children’s clubs tailored to suit Children of all ages, as well as our main gathering for Sunday morning service each week, with crèche and Sunday school.

Church Building

Derry/Donegal Christian Fellowship has owned the Church building at 9 Northland Road for a period of more than 30 years, and this is where the majority of our Church services and activities are held. The Trustees and Pastor are responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the building.

Fellowship Group

Derry/Donegal Christian Fellowship is an independent Church without any formal relationship with any Denomination or other Independent Fellowship. However we have shared vision and cooperation with other Independent Churches in the County of Donegal, Ireland in keeping with our mission and focus for the communities of Derry and Donegal.

Pastoral Care

Barry Rogers is responsible for carrying the role of church pastor. His duties include being responsible for the oversight and guidance of the church family. The pastor undertakes visitation to sick and infirm members (and non-members alike where required) to offer counsel and comfort. He also officiates at weddings and funerals where required. Much of his time is spent in prayer and study to adequately lead the church and wider community closer to a revelation of the Love of God for each one of them.

Other duties include offering counselling, advice, and reconciliation ministry in disputes and on individual basis. The pastor has responsibility for decision making on current and future directions for the church. He is actively involved in the organising and running of various outreach programs such as the Widows Jar Project, with the purpose of taking the message of this gospel beyond the four walls of the church building.

Fundraising

In general Derry Donegal Christian Fellowship does not undertake overt fundraising for the everyday execution of the activities of the church – instead it relies entirely on the donations and tithes of members of the church and occasional anonymous donations from well-wishers and fellow believers. These are accepted gratefully, but there is no condition or charge associated with being a member of the church. The Foodshare & Widow’s Jar projects aim to provide food and other gifts targeted towards those most in need at Christmas time through delivered hampers (Widow’s Jar) and weekly from the church building (Foodshare). We believe it is the will of our Lord to seek out those in need to serve them to impart hope and goodwill. Fundraising was completed within the church from members. There was no public fundraising.

Financial Review

Total receipts on unrestricted funds for 2022/23 were £82,368.85 raised through donations & HMRC Gift Aid as detailed on financial statements.

Total receipts on restricted funds for 2022/23 were £15,691.47 for Foodshare/Widows Jar projects. Total receipts for 2022/23 were £98,060.30.

£93,321.29 was spent to provide the Christian Ministry from Derry/Donegal Christian Fellowship.

Structure, Governance and Management

There are three Trustees for DDCF, two of whom are serving Elders. The remaining Trustee is a former Pastor and founding member of the Church.

DDCF Oversight consist of the appointed Elders and Pastor of the Church. The Pastor is accountable to the Trustees and members of the Church. Oversight are responsible for appointment of roles, whether paid or voluntary and for making all decisions on matters of general concern including deciding on how the funds of DDCF are to be spent.

The method for appointment of DDCF members is set out in the Church Constitution. At present the membership includes all those who attend our services and have expressed interest in membership. There is no fee or expectation of donations, however giving, or “Tithing” as an expression of Christian values is accepted practice in Christian doctrine. Members are encouraged to attend DDCF annual meetings with Oversight meetings occurring more regularly as and when required.
