The twstees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 July 2022.
The trustees have adopted the provision5 of Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of
Recommended Pra¢tic¢ applicable lo charities preparing their accounts in accordance with th¢ Financial
Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective l January 2019).
INCORPORATION
The cbaritable cornpany, The Police Historical Society (N.1.) (Incorporating the RUC GC Historical Society)
was incorporated on I l May 2017.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
The Royal Ulster Constabulary George Cross Historical Society exists lo advance public education and
understanding of the hislory of policing in Ireland. It does this through ils ownership and management of its
historic collection of police artefacts held in the Police Museum at PSNI Headquarters.
The collection covers the history of policing in the north of Ireland frotn Ihc early 1800s to the present day.
The collection includes uniforms, equipment, medals, weapons, vehicles, posters and ar¢hives from the early
1800,5 onwards.
The museum is located at PSNI Headquarters Belfast and is open daily to the public. It provides outsid¢
exhibitions and collaborates both with the Northern Ireland Museums Council and othcr local museums. The
Hon. Sccrclary/Curator gives regular laLks both to visiting individuals aud groups and to interested outside
bodies. An historical Joumal and an annual talks programme are produ¢ed for sociely tncmbcrs.
Significant activities
Museum activities throughout the year re¢overed slowly with the easing of COVID restrictions with the
museum fully opcn for visits in spring 2022.
Staff continued to maintain an historical and genealogical enquiry service in response to queries and carried
out histori¢&l research on aspects of polic¢ history and on artefaets held in the collection. From authmn 2021
the Curator moved lo work on a ph&8ed retirement basis of three days per week.
Th¢ problem with the museum's standalone email ad(tress was addressed by the PSNI ICS technical settt'ng
up a separate inbox within the common terniinal for outside enquiries.
A major development was thc establishment of a project group under the Deputy Chief Constable for a new
police museum. An architect in PSNI Estates ServAces was also appointed as the proj¢cl sponsor and a
number of planning ￿eetingS were held with the society ttustees and other stakeholders with a view to the
ew museum being opened in three to four y¢ars' lime.
The society's monthly talks programme was able to be resumed on a face-to-face basis in the auttllnn and
thanks must go to Dr LavJDia Boyce for puttiLg together an interesting and varied programme.
During the year the resignation of all the trustees to the original trust dceds of 1993 and 2003 were securcd
and the society awaits confirniation from the Charity Commission Nl that it may now transfer ils assets and
transition to new the charitable company.

STRucfuRE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
The charity is controlled by ils governing document, a deed of trust and constitutes an unincorporated
charity.
Organisational structure
The So¢iety is governed by a management committee elected annually at the society AGM, comprisiiig the
following offire bearcts= Chair {vacant), 2 Vice Chairs, Honorary Secretary, Honorary Assistant Secretary,
Honorary Treasurer. Membership Secretary {vacant) and in the period in queslion 7 tsustees. The
management ¢ommiltce mccts every two months lo reccivc reports from the society office bearers. Office
bearers and trustees receive no remuneration in respect of their services to the charity.
The managcn]cnt con]mittee delegates the day-to-day management of the collection and th¢ Police Museum
to the Honorary Secretary, who is also Curator of the Police Museum and as such a part-time PSNI
employee. The Curator is assisted by an assistant wbo is also a full_time PSNI employee
