The trustees who are also directors of the charity, for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ending 31[st ] December 2023. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial standard applicable in the UK and RoI (FRS 102) (effective 1 Jan 2015).

Objectives and Activities

The Charity’s purpose as set out in the Company’s Memorandum and Articles of Association may be summarised as the advancement of religion, education; and, the health the saving of lives adults and young people by, from a Christian perspective, promoting a drug-free lifestyle thereby preventing self-harm from drugs.

The following are the key elements of the programme to achieve this:

The Objectives have been carried out in accordance with the Statement of Faith and through the fostering of links with, and supporting and co-operating with, other persons and organisations across the UK/ROI with similar aims.

The Trustees, in setting objectives and planning activities for the year, have aligned activities to seek to achieve the public benefit as described within our MA&A’s in accordance to the CCNIs guidance.

Achievements and Performance

HopeNW exists to promote the benefits of a drug-free lifestyle from a Christian perspective seeking to prevent self-harm by drug abuse through education. HopeNW has developed Workbooks aligned to the Northern Ireland Year 6 & Year 7 curriculum as a tool to assist in accomplishing this primarily through educating Year 6 & Year 7 about the dangers of drugs before they come under pressure to get involved. An Education Officer is employed to teach lessons on the dangers of drugs in primary schools throughout the North-West.

Report of the Trustees

Financial Year 01 Jan ‘23 – 31 Dec ‘23

During the financial year HopeNW has had the privilege to teach some 1,412 primary school pupils in over 24 schools with workbooks going into 25 schools.

Positive responses on both the workbooks and teaching have been received: from both teachers and pupils.

There was great response to the Annual E-Poster Competition showing the knowledge gained demonstrated so enthusiastically in both the presentation and quality of work produced at the year-end competitions with some 85 entries from 14 schools. The judges were extremely impressed by the quality of the young people’s work commenting of the quality and high standards of entries.

Feedback from Schools of the Educational Officer’s work continues to be very complimentary.

In addition there were some 200 workbooks supplied to other Youth Organisations/Schools.

Workbooks are now produced in both English and Irish languages.
