The trustees, who are also the directors for the purposes of company law, present Iheir report and the
unaudited financial statements of the charity for the year end8d 31 March 2023.
Structuro, g0Voman￿ and management
The Society is a Cornpany Limited by Guarante8, not having a share capital and satisfies the criteria set
out in Section 60 of the Companies Act 2006 whereby It Is exempt from the use of the word "Limited" as
part of the company name.
The company is governed by a Memorandum and Articles ofAssociation. The liability of each member
of the company is limited to a contribution, in the event of the winding up of the Soci8ty, of an amount
not éxceeding £1.
The Directors have ultimate legal and financial responsibility for the affairs of Davina's Ark (Aftercare
Addiction Centre), although the management of the organisation is generally delegated to the staff and
volunteers, through the Chief Executive. The Board of Directors meet on a quarterly basis and consist
of the Chief Executive, the Chairperson and the other Board Members. In addition, stafflvolunteer
meetings are held on a monthly basis.
The Directors of the company at 31 March 2023, all of whom have been in office for the whole of the
period ended on that dale, unless otherwise stated, are listed below.
Davina's Ark (Aftercare Addiction Centr8) has an induction program for new directors in which directors
are advised of their18gal responsibility and requirements.
Charit8bl8 status
The society has been grant8d charitable status for taxation purposes and its register8d number 15
NIC100289.
Risk management
The directors have actively reviewed the major risks which the charity is expos8d to and have in place
sufficient resources in the event of adverse conditions. The directors have also examined other
business and operational risks, which the charity faces and confirm that it has established systems to
mitigate significant risks.
Publlc Benefit
The direct benefits which flow from purpose
1. Through working with individuals inflicted wlth addiction Davlna's Ark wlll help prevent
relapses and Incldents of solf-hami and sulcide and the relief of anxiety, dopression and
the assoclatod psychologlcal trauma connected wlth addl¢tlon.
These benefits will be 8vid8ncgd through evaluation feedback forms completed at the end of the
programme by the cenlre users themselv8s, family members and or monitoring services (where a
referral was in place) from other professlonals also working wilh the individuals. There is no obvious
harm arising from this benefit. The charities beneficiari85 are individuals regardless of age, ra￿,
religion, sexual orientation or gender 8nd their families living within the Newry & Mourne region and
surrounding district who ar8 suff8ring from or affected by the effects of addiction The only private benefit
arising from this purpose is the practical experience and training that the will be available to the volunteer
counsellors and facilitators. some of whom are Irustees. However this training is necessary and
obligatory in ord8r lo provide the service and therefore this benefit is incidental.

The direct benefits which flow from purpose 2 is the provision of a safe, confidential non-residenlial
aftercare sernice which will provide a range of tailored therapeutic programmes which will rediscover
family relationships lost to addiction and offer emotional support, anger management and help develop
and or reintroduce social and life skills for example Interaction with the individual and their family also
relieves pressure on a lot of young carers in our society. These benefits will be evidenced through
evaluation feedback forms completed at the end of each programme by the centre users themselves,
family members involved in the process and or monitoring services (where a referral was in place) from
other professionals a150 working with the individuals and or the family. There is no harmful outcome in
the provision of this benefit The charitles beneficiaries are individuals regardless of age, race, religion,
sexual orientation or gender and their families Ilving within the Newry & Mourne region and surrounding
dislrict who are suffering from or affected by the effects of. Quite often this is either elderly parents or
young children or other vulnerable persons. The only private benefit arising from this purpose is the
practical experience and training that the will be available to the volunteer counsellors and facilitators,
some of whom are trustees. However this tralning is necessary and obligatory In order to provide the
S6rvice and Iherefore this benefit is incidental.
3, The advanc•m•nt of educatlon
The dlrect benefits which flow from purpose 3 Is the increased awareness wlthin the entire society of
the effects of addlction, the reduction of shame and stlgma surrounding addiction and highlighting how
addlctlon can imp8Ct on more than just the individual and it also provides hope to the centre users and
reduces the shame and stigma attached to addiction. These benefits will be evidenced through feedback
evaluation forms completed at the end of each programme by the centre users themselves, family
members Involved in the process and or regular monitoring services (where a referral was in place) from
other professionals slso working with the individuals and or the family. There is no harmful
outcome in Ihe provlslon of this benefit The charities beneficiaries are individuals regardless of age,
race, religion. sexual orlentation or gender and their families living within the Newry & Mourne region

Centre) is supporting individuals and families affected by addiction and associated psychological trauma

Davina's Ark {Aftercare Addictlon Centre) provldes counselling support and bespoke confidential
aftercare programmes for individuals and their families in a non-residential selling. The service is
provided within a safe and confidential therapeutic framework delivered by professionally qualified
counsellors to all individuals without distinction of age, sex, sexual orientation, and race, political,
religious or other opinion.
Davina's Ark (Aftercare Addiction Centre) will provide individual counselling, group work, educational
workshops. therapeutic programmes and 8ducational infomiation and literature.
Our vision is to provide a centre of eX￿llen￿ to support individuals and families affected by addiction
and associated psychological trauma, by providing a holistic aftercare service with the object of
preventing relapse, encouraging change ané Improving the way of life for all benefiGiaries. We review
our aims, objectives and activities each year. This review looks at what we achieved and the outcomes
of our work in the previous periods. The review looks al the success of projects and programmes and
the outcomes of each element. Th8 review also helps us ensur6 our aims, objectives and activities
remain focused on our slated purpos8.

Achievements and performance
Davina's Ark (Aftercare Addiction Cenlre) main obj8Ctives for the 2019120 year were to continue
providing and to develop and extend an aftercare counselling service within a safe and confidential
therapeutic framework for individuals and families affected by addiction and associated psychological
trauma through the provision of psychological, emotional, spiritu81 and practical supports. The Strategies
we used to meet these objectives included.

group counselling, educational workshops, tailored therapeutic programmes and holistic

Informing and educating beneficiaries on all aspects of addicts'on including cause, effect,
recovery and prevention of relapse,.
Recwiting, competent ané highly motivated workforce of professional qualified counsellors
and volunteers who have knowledge and experience to deliver the service to the highest

Increasing public awareness through media sources and developing marketing
communication materials - leaflets, posters, etc and setling up an operational web-site,.
Developing collaborative links with other Health & relevant voluntary organisations.
Davina's Ark (Aftercare Addiction Centre) is based in Newry but will provide its services within Ihe Newry
& Mourne, the Southern Health and Social Care Trust domain and adjoining border counties of the
Republic of Ireland serving a population in excess of 600,000. The Newry & Mourne area includes 7
neighbourhood renewal INR) areas of high multiple deprivation wrth additional NR areas in Armagh,
Lurgan and Craigavon. There are similar d8mographics in the border counlies although tho
neighbourhood renewal categorisation is not used In that lurlsdiction.

Davina's Ark (Aflercare Addiction Centre) have developed an Aftercare Programme specifically
designed as a response to the needs of those recovering from addiction and for families affected by
addiction within our community. It is targeted at those who wish to look to the fiJlure with a view to
change, to engage with our Recovery Action Plan and to work towards breaking the cycle of addiction
and maintaining recovery. While structured day programmes are a fairly new modality, they facilitate
service users r8maining wilhin important supportive social networks and prove to be c05t effective. The
Social Ideology is based on community care. service users remain in their own community during
therapy.

Financial revlew
The financial statements are pres&nted in the standard format required by the Statement of
Recommended Practice Accounting and Reporting by Charities" issued in March 2005 and cover the
activities of Davina's Ark (Aftercare Adéiction Centre). The Statement of Financial Activities (SOFA)
shows the gross income from all sources.
Overview
The charlty incurred 8 surplus of £40,716 in the period for the year ended 31 March 2023. This
performance was expected by the Board of Directors.
Incoming resources
Total incoming resources for the year were £190.228. The charity continues to be thankful for peoples,
wonderful efforts and generosity, particularly in times of recession.
Direct charitable expendilure
Direct charitable expenditure has increased during the year primarily due to costs of staffing an4J
establishment, as a result of the increase in activities conducted by the charity during the year.
Govern8nce costs
The administration costs of running the charlty were £149,512 in 2022123.
Balance Sheet
Net funds where positive at £41,944 as at 31 March 2023.
Reserves Policy
The reserves policy was agreed following an analysis of the following four factors".
Forecasts for levels of Income in future years taking into account th8 reliability of each source
of income and the prospects for opening up new sources,.
Forecasts for expenditure in the future years in the basis of planned activity",
Analysi5 of any future needs. opportunities. contingencies or risks, the effects of which are not

consequences of the charity not being able to meet th&m.
The ch8ritYs policy is to maintain a level of free reserves which meets the needs of the Charity both at
the current time and for the foreseeable future. Fr&e reserves are its total funds excluding restricted
fund5, designated funds or income funds which can only be released by disposing of r￿ed assets held
for charity use.
Investment PoliGy
Aside from retaining a prudent amount in reserves each year most of the charity's funds are to be spent
in the short term so there are few funds for long term investment,

The company's forecasts and projections, taking account of reasonably possible changes In operating
perforniance and upon securing funding show that the company will be able to operate within its current
faGilities and expected offer letters.
After making enquiries, th6 directors have a reasonable expectation that the company has adequate
reSoUr￿S to continue in operation for the foreseeable futurè. Accordingly, they continue to adopt the
going concern basis in preparing the annual report and financial statements
