## **– - TRUSTEE ANNUAL REPORT April 2022 March 2023**

## **TRUSTEES**

Mr Geoff Lennox, Mr John Henshaw and Miss Lorna McConaghie approved the Annual Report on 24 January 2024. In the setting of our objectives and planning activities, they have given careful consideration to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland’s guidance on public benefit to ensure that the activities have helped to achieve the charity’s purposes and provide a benefit to the beneficiaries.

New Heart Ministries is constituted as a church as set out in our Constitution document. According to the Church’s Constitution the power of appointing new trustees is vested in the Oversight (Elders) of the Church and the method is by resolution. The Board of Trustees can range from three to seven in addition to the Chairmanperson.

The Trustees, Elders and Pastors propose policy guidelines which are discussed with Department Team Leaders who meet quarterly when minutes are recorded.

The Church itself is made up of Members, Associate Members and Department Team Leaders such as Treasurer, Worship Leader, Teaching and Administration.

## **FINANCIAL REVIEW**

The financial position is as follows:

NHM is in a healthy position with a surplus of £18201 period ending 31 March 2023. NHM has unrestricted funds of £26376 and restricted funds of £8275. As constant income exceeds expenditure services, activities are able to be maintained.

## Geoffrey McGookin (Auditor)

Income comes from Members of the Church who give voluntary contributions of money throughout the year either by Church Offerings or Bank Standing Orders. Expenditure is mainly salaries for Pastors, gifts to Missions throughout the world, low-interest loans to individuals and Ballyclare Family Focus. Also property maintenance including cleaning, repairs and running expenses.

## **SUMMARY OF PURPOSES**

We promote Christianity in Northern Ireland and other parts of the world. This includes education about Christianity using all means of communication as well as promoting missionary work through various projects.

Our main purpose is to provide for the spiritual, mental and emotional needs of our church community and pastoral care for the members of the Church.

Our main contribution to the local and wider community is through our financial support of Pastor Adelyn Carr which allows her to manage Ballyclare Family Focus with the purpose of helping and supporting individuals and families in need. This includes such helps as Active Listening and referral services to other agencies.

In addition we aim to foster links with other organisations and churches to help and support the wider community which involves the promotion of reconciliation in a cross community and cross border setting.

## **SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES**

We provided regular worship services for our members on site as well as through Zoom media every Sunday and Wednesday night. Up to 30 members attended these. In addition pastoral care, prayer ministry and personal support were all available

We provided podcasts of teaching on a regular basis on our website – St Patrick Ministries. These teachings were accessed by other pastors and Christians abroad who show their appreciation by email. This social media provides resources to people in the wider community with a message of reconciliation and a cross-community outreach.

The outcomes for beneficiaries were improved spiritual, mental and emotional health and holistic wellbeing. Participation was entirely voluntary and only experienced and trained volunteers took part in dealing with those who sought prayer so no harm was experienced. There was no private benefit.

All of the above supported the public benefit of developing the skills and talents of the participants who then were able to have confidence to serve the wider community and other churches.

In addition members of the local community, who are not members of NHM, can approach to request prayer and active listening. Approximately 15 such requests were made during the year. This enabled New Heart to help participants with decision-making and the alleviation of anxiety in a safe environment. One of our members is a professional counsellor.

Our main contribution to the local community is through Ballyclare Family Focus which helps individuals and families in difficult circumstances as well as providing educational courses to support families eg suicide and bereavement courses. For example we held a 12-week Pot of Gold Course on Child Bereavement with 10 children during the period October 2022 – February 2023.

BFF also ran a Parent and Toddler Group and operated a Pre-school which has a curriculum with a Biblestory focus. These took place in the period September 2022 – May 2023.

Our NHM volunteers provided the following support:

- Organisation, management and co-ordination by Pastor Adelyn Carr who is funded by NHM and NHM also acts as a sponsor for BFF facilitating the need for financial reserves of the charity.

- New Heart members helped with financial administration and BFF events in the community. They also function as volunteers in community outreach work and family support activities.

## Missionary Support

- One of our members is an OM Missionary in Moldova and her work involves dire poverty and orphanages.

- We are supporting another member who is working as a nurse in India.

- NHM supported and sent financial support to the Phumvudza Project in Zimbabwe. This project ran in March 2022 and people from a rural village were mentored and supported to plant a maize field. The finances donated paid for seed, and fertiliser

- A member from our church - Gary Taylor relocated to Australia on 11[th] May 2022 and we have been supporting him to resettle into his new world.

The beneficiaries of all of these activities were individuals and organisations who help minister to some of the poorest people in the world.
