A brlef update on the Past Year 202112022
Well after two years of Cowd associated lockdowns and c105ures including our much-cherished
museum at the Park Centre, dare I say that normal life seems to be returning certainly our
politicians. in the middle of an election campaign. seem to have resumed normal service. At the risk
of tempting fate, the Societls work, seems to have taken on a whole new lease of lrfe. As noted last
year online activity led to an increase in the number of committee meetings, Stimulating a wealth of
fresh ideas and activities all the bètter to preserve the legacy of the Grand Old Team.
The museum, still very much the centrepiece of the S¢xiety is now reopened on a bi-weekly bas￿.
(Wednesdays & Saturdays). However, we can also cater for individual requests for special tours and
access as is mutualty convenient. The exhibit5 and display areas have been reinvigorated, led by the
dynamic duo that is our President Charlie Tully Jnr and Hon. Secretary Vintent McDonald,
enthusiastically 5UPPOrted by Paul Campbell. Over the past year in addition to fresh coat5 of paint.
the Jimmy Jones display laLFnched pre<ovid in Autumn 2019 has been joined by a new display of the
incomparable Charlie Tully, (see link 11. Both displays have been supplemented by additional.
preciou5 items 8iFted to the Society. We plan to add an additional display to Elisha Scott centred
around some wonderful memorabilia lenl to us by the kott famity. We are regularly adding to our
collettion a range of small but very intere5tiri8 pieces, so for those of you who have not visited for
some time befo￿ the lockdowns, should you call in you are in for a treat. Perhaps the most exciting
event was the launch in March of Sean Fennell's an Irish language history of the club for use in Irish
language schools. (See links 2 & 31. Looking further fO￿ard it is hoped to explore the potential to
extend this initiative through0￿ the entire primary school sertor.
In iernis of outreach, a5 Covid recedes things have started to pick up and we have had a number of
events. already this Spring led by our Chairman Padraig Coyle, (see link 41. The SocieW5 Focebook
page continues to reflect the great interest in the Grand Old Team. Next month the society will be
hosting a Belfast CeltSc evening on June 11 at the St Comgall's ReCreat￿n Club in Larne. We are
also hoping to host another evenin8 fvrther up the G￿nS of Antrim later in the year.
Finally. as everthe society remains indebted to the dedication and support of its committee and all
tts volunteers and by no means lastty. you our members for helping us to keeping the memory of the
Grand Old Team alNe.
