Objecti¥es and Activities
Beffast Celtic Society is a charity established in November 2003 to enco¥Jrdge an appreclation,

Celtic Football and Athletic [￿b.
The main aims and objertwes of the Belfast Celtic So¢￿ty are to promote awarenes5 of the history
and cultural heritage of Belfast Celtic Football and Athletic Club. The Society arranges open lectures
and public rneetings: maintains a travelling photographic exhibition. has established a permanent
collection of Belfast Celtic memorabilia and artefarts displayed at The Park Centre. Done8all Road,
8elfast,' collects filmed recording5 of Berfast Cemic and artivety use5 the internet to raise awarene55
of the tradltions of the Grand Old Team. The Society has applied for and has been granted
charitable status as one of the main aim5 IS to raise funds that 80 to charity.

Beffast Celtic $￿Iety
After a year of Covid and associated lockdowns and closLtres including our much cherished Museum
at the Park Centre, so much of nomial life continue5 to be on hold. On the other hand, Covid Seems
to have ga￿anIzed the Societys work. as like 50 many others we have been forced online. The use of
Zoom has increased the number of committee meeting5, stimulated a wealth of ideas for further
activities and steps by which we can continue to preserve the legacy of the Grand Old Team.
We will be revisf(ing the CeFtic Circles init4atNe and takin8 Steps to establish an or31 history and
capture as many folk memories as possible. Last year I reported the four online lectures we had
interest in the work that we do. The level of activty on the Societrfs Facebook page continues to
reflect the great interest in the Grand Old TeaTn. For those of you who have not taken the
opportunity to view any of the online talks they can be accessed by clicking on the link below. More
recently the commrttee established links with the Society of American Soccer History, which has the
interesting acronym of ISASHI. and our chaimian Padraig Coyle took part in an online seminar givbng
an enthralling if poignant account of the farewell tour of America in earw summer of 1949. The
highlight of the unbeaten tour wa5 of Course the humiliating defeat handed out to the Scottish
International team, which resulted in the Scottish FA to resolve never again to play club sides. For
more infomiation follow link below to their wèbsite.
The Celtic influence on American football 15 of course synonymous with the htstory of their sport and
with planning for the 2026 World Cup in the U.S. now well underway we hope to build on that
interest in the months ahead. Closerto home the Society has become inVo￿ed in an exciting
ed*Jcational project, which not only will help preserve the memory and legacy of thè Grand Old team
but more importantly supw)rt the education and development of our future cittzens. Sean Fennell, a
teacher in one of the local Irish Language schools in the Gaeltacht Quarter has written a resource
text for primary school pupils retelling the story and tracing the legary of Belfast Celtic. Through the
financial support of the society, among a number of others, it is hoped to print and publish text5 for
dhstribution throughout the Sector. Looking fvrther forward it is hoped to explore the potential to
extend this initiative throughout the enti￿ primary sthool sector.
Finally, as everthe society remains indebted to the dedication arbd support of its committee and all
Its volunteer5 and by no means lastlyi you our members for helping us to keepln8 the Memory of the
Grand Old Team allve.
