Trustees Report 2022

Following a two-year absence due to the pandemic the choir recommenced on Tuesday 30[th] August with a short practice and refreshments afterwards. It was so pleasant to catch up with each other after such an extended period. Members had been contacted and there was a very good response to starting practices again.

However, we were saddened to lose two long-standing committee members, Annette Lindsay and Sandra Smyth who both retired from the choir and as charity trustees after many years service. Some other choir members have also retired for health reasons and we wish them well and better health in the days ahead.

We began practicing for our Christmas Carol Concert to be held this year in Albertbridge Congregational Church as the Committee felt we could not be assured of the regular audience at Fisherwick , which also might be depleted due to Covid years. In fact this concert was excellent according to feedback. Almost 200 attended and £2500 was raised and given entirely to Air Ambulance. Our guest artiste was Richard Douglas and there was added audience participation which they appreciated.

The following week we proceeded to Drumgooland Presbyterian where the same programme was given and they made us very welcome on a cold icy night. We gave a satisfactory concert and their audience also enjoyed participating. A significant offering was lifted for the Friends of the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital.

Recent studies in brain sciences show that when we feel grateful, that makes us happier and we in the KC count our blessings when we praise our Lord proclaiming His excellencies, expressing honour, respect and reverence which results in mood boosting joy.

This choir has since its beginning glorified the living God and our interaction with Him while we acknowledge His salvation plan in concert is that which lifts us and transforms singing into worship. An official in Belfast Cathedral where we sang lately, recognised this when he said “This choir know who they are singing to”.

Our remit is not to entertain but a ministry to proclaim hope, redemption from this dark world of sin and the way to eternal life through the death and resurrection of the Son of God, a gift to mankind paid for at Calvary. If our audiences understand this presentation from the King’s Chorale then we will have done what Christ has told us.
