ANNUAL REPORT TO THE MEMBERS OF THE HARPER ADAMS IN IRELAND ASSOCIATION FOR THE YEAR ENDING JULY 31[ST] 2022
Ladies and Gentlemen.
The year under review has been partially dominated by restrictions associated with the control of Covid-19. No external activities took place.
SUPPORT FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS.
Contact with Prospective Students.
During the year, a limited number of prospective students were identified and during the last half of the year were contacted remotely. Reassurance encouragement and advice was given to them and their parents on course choice and career progression.
SUPPORT FOR PRESENT STUDENTS.
Scholarships and Awards.
The Association continued to support present students by the generation of new and the administration of existing awards and scholarships Students from Ireland benefited from £13,500 of scholarships awarded by or administered by HA in I during the year. Your Association facilitated two students to attend the Oxford Farming Conference in January. Discussion with a potential sponsor has resulted in an agreement to support an additional scholarship to attend the Oxford Farming Conference in future years. John Thompson & Sons Ltd. sponsored the Victor Truesdale Prize to the final year student from Ireland who has contributed most to the student community.
Harper-Ireland Club.
The Harper-Ireland Club is the club for students from Ireland in Harper Adams University. HA in I was instrumental in securing the guest speaker at the Club’s annual dinner in Shropshire. The Association continues to give advice and support to the student club in other ways.
Other Support.
The Association has mentored several students on industry opportunities, on the criteria for determining a career direction and strategy and has been instrumental in securing employment and facilitates the placement of employment opportunities in Ireland on the Harper Adams University web site.
UNDERPINNING ACTIVITIES.
Press.
Harper Adams in Ireland is represented on the committee of the Guild of Agricultural Journalists. Editors of the key agricultural papers in Ireland are Honorary Members of
Harper Adams in Ireland. A regular item of alumni news is published fortnightly by arrangement with the editor of the Belfast News Letter's Farming Life supplement.
