Proverbs 22.6 Summary At the close of the last reporting period, we were fad with a major challenge which involved the closure of our primary education at Wamba. The transfer of the 6 small classes to the local state primary classes of 70 to 95 children was painful but the eventual transfer to a smaller local village school has ultimately been a good experien for our children and team. The children from the home rather than being the underdogs are the role models. We are supporting the communty by providing a teacher and Bible materials. After KCSE in November 23, as work experience, Michael and Maureen acted as assistant teachers until their tertiary courses commenced September 24. KCPE in November led to three young going to a good quality boarding school in Maralal. Two went to Polytechnic, boarding in Isiolo. We now have five young people attending polytechnic courses with a further four in Tertiary education. I mentioned last year that funding Secondary and Tertiary is an increasing challenge for us, As a result of this growth, post year end we have launched an Education Sub-committee to manage this workload, to develop a structure of support, and for raise funding. The health of the children during the period was in the main routine with two exceptions. One child with Cerebral Palsy and another who was fainting required extra treatment. Except for myself, all UK team members visited the work during the period. Having gone to Kenya early on Gillian unfortunately became ill and after a short stay in a local hospital returned to the UK to recover. Pamela arrived shortly after Gillian. followed by Ken and Watson Black towards the end of March. Ken and Pamela visited again for five weeks at the end of September. Lea visited for about ten weeks from December when she arrived with her brother Jonathan and sister Miriam who both stayed for several weeks. Finally, Pamela returned to Kenya in early January 24. During his visit in March, Ken took th8 opportunity to run a tw¢Fday team management seminar at local hotel, Representatives from all the projects participaled each taking the opportunity to give an account of their work. Philip was able to update the team with a synopsis of the changes to education and how they would affect our children and team. Further to his visit, Jonathan, Lea's bTOther, encouraged Samson to commence a running club which has been formalised and is now a well-attended weekly meeting, twice a week during the holidays. We continue to cooperate with the Kenyan Government across the breadth of the work. KRA (Kenyan Revenue Authority) to maintain our tax-free status, NHIF (National Hospital Insurance Fund) and NSSF (National Social Security Fund) as we seek to maximise the benefit of belonging to these insurance schemes. In relation to their policy on the future of children's homes we continue to plan for and implement the downsizing of our operations. The challenges facing the world do not lessen. Our income whilst showing drop of 25Q/o this has bean almost totally represented by the banks partial redress for the error in 2022. Donations and gifts alone show a much smaller 2.59/0 reduction which is acceptable given the 17Yo increase the previous year. We thank God for the generous hearts He has given and for the growing support from Austria as well as the faithfulness of our core support. 8ummarising the figures. Opening balance £119,343, inGome for the year was £120,739 (£160,039) and the closing balance was £129,934. An increase of £10,591. We transferred to Kenya £110,000 (£120,000) Flnanclal Hlghllghts Gifts totalled £110,839 (£113,747) and the Inland Revenue (Gift Aid) contributed £9,552 (£9,863). We are thankful for this to all those who have signed Gift Aid forms. We continue to receive donations from severa5 Charitable Trusts. and we give thanks to God for their faithfulness and generosity. All the funds transferred to Kenya continue to go to the account of Kind fund Society of Kenya. The fund8 transferred to Kenya this year fell back £10,000 to £110,000 reflecting a levelling off between the two years and an improvement in the exchange rate. The Kenyan Shilling remained weak throughout the first half of the year with an exchange of 180+ but strengthened during the latter part of the year as Kenya sorted out some of its borrowing requirements and this resulted in a drop for us by around 20 ksh in the pound to rates in the 160s. In the current year we have been receiving 165+ and there are signs of it again rising above 170 to the pound. This is very helpful for us as we are faced by high levels of inflation in Kenya. In the year 202314 we granted staff a rise of 9°/o+ to account for inflation. A minimal amount was spent on administration £148 (£1973). All expenses for those travelling to Kenya continue to be met personally by the traveller. The financial position has remained sound In the current year.
