St Canice’s Ladies GFC, Dungiven Charity Number: 100108
Trustee’s Report 1[st] February 2017 to 31 January 2018
St Canice’s Ladies GFC was set up to advance amateur sport for girls and ladies, to administer, promote, foster and develop Ladies Gaelic Football and to provide coaching and equipment. Ladies Gaelic Football is a sport that promotes health by involving physical and mental skills. St Canice’s Ladies GFC also promotes and encourages all members to use the Irish Language, to gain more knowledge of their cultural heritage and to respect all cultures.
During the year, St Canice’s Ladies provided coaching for up to 150 girls from 3 parishes and 7 schools, 2 of these are Irish Medium. The girls’ ages range from 4 to adult and coaching sessions took place throughout the week with matches on weeknights and weekends. The Club hosted another very successful Summer Camp, for members and non-members, with over 180 girls, aged 5 to 14, taking part. The older girls at Camp were coached in the national sport of Handball. The Club hosted an Ulster Blitz allowing the girls to play against clubs from different counties, took part in the National Scór competition entering acts in 3 categories, ballad group, solo singing and novelty act and also took part in various community lead events in the local area.
Our Beneficiaries are the girls and ladies who participate – the health benefits of being active, the educational benefits to the younger girls and the social benefits of meeting and making new friends. Their families, extended family and supporters also got enjoyment as spectators at their matches and club events. The Club’s volunteer coaches benefit from their leadership experiences and this year the Club encouraged all the volunteers to get vetted and attend Child Welfare and Coaching courses, as required by our governing body.
There was no private benefit during the year.
The trustees, in planning activities for the year, have given careful consideration to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland’s guidance on public benefit to ensure that the activities have helped to achieve the charity’s purposes and provide a benefit to the beneficiaries.
