The charity was formed under a corLStitution adopted in March 1993, amended in July 1996 ond

Building Society.

Preschool reopened after the Easter break on 1 V April 2024.
In M8y2024 ftwas decided bythe committee that we would introduce a volunt8ry contribution
of £2.50 per family towards consumables such as fruit and vegfor snacks. Payment of this
contribution is entirely voluntary 8nd there is no obligation for parents to pay this fee and all
children have equal access to 8n8cks at preschool.
Preschool had to c108e on 16th May 2024 due to Stsff absences and not being able to meetthe
adequate Staff to child ratios. Preschool reopened as normal the following day.
The week of 1P June preschool held a sponsored sports week. Children and thelr familie8 were
encouraged to raise moneythrough sponsors from friends and famlly. All money raised would go
towards new equipment for the setting. We r8ised £384.00.
We held a 8tsll 8t Henwick Fun Day on 30° June 2024. We raised £295.30.
Preschoolwas closed on 4th Julyforgener8l election8.
Hayley 8ry8nt left in October 2024 after 4 years with us.
Carly Jefferies repl8C8d Hayley as deputy manager. Carly has over 10 years. experience with u8
and in childcare. Carly18 currently compl8ting her leval 3 qualification in childcare.
Preschool took part In 'odd socks day, to m8rk anti bullying week. Staff 8nd children were
encourag8d to come in wearing odd socks forthis.
An online raffle took place to raise money for Thatch8m PreschooL £554.70 was ra18ed.
The18StW8ek of November2024 we held a pyj8mas and bookweek. W8 asked families of
children to donate gifts for our Chrlstmas stalt at the Th8tch8m Chhstmas lights switch on for
this.
The flrst week of December we held our tombola and lucky dip stall at the Christmas light
switch on. We raised a total Of £242.48.
On our Christmas party Daythe committee held a cake stsii and we raised £50.22.
Katy Powell left us at the end of the term In December 2024.
In January 2025 Joanne Lloyd started wlth u8. She is level 2 quallfted In childcare. She wa8 8
previous preschool parent and has her own experiences with having SEN children herself. She
has become a great member ofthe team.
January 2025 we unfortunatoly had to close foi 2 days due to several members of staff coming
down with a sickness bug that W88 spreading around preschool and the (ocal schools.
Children took part in world book dayon 6" March by brinwng in theirfavourite book and dressing
up as favourite book char8Cters.

Thatcham Town council are In char8e of building maintenance.
Each morning the premlses are inspected for any obvious signs of damage whlch would be
reported to Thatcham town council. Minor issues such as obstructions to the building
would be cleared away by staff and if need be reported to the council. Toys are checked
and cleaned regularly.
The buildin8 has a fully enclosed garden and regular headcounts are carried out when
comin8 in and out of the garden.
A stairgate is used to prevent access to the kitchen.
A stair gate is at the entrance to ensure chlldren can't access the doors as they have a push
bar openlng mechanism.
An allergy list is displayed by the snack area which is checked and updated on a daily basis
and updated wlth any chan8es. We have a poster from the Food Standards Agency of Early
Years Food Choking Hazards that Is dlsplayed on the hatch door between the kitchen and
the hall.
PAT testing Is carrled out by Thatcham town council.
Alarms were added to the fire doors to the car park in October 22 for added security.
Preschool purchased ramps to put In front of the paved area outslde the garden door to
support children wlth poor mobility to access the garden more easily and safer.
Our preschool first aid box is sltuated between the hall and garden area. Box is checked and
updated regularly to ensure all items are in date.
A building inspection is carried out monthly by Thatcham Town Council.
There are safety bars and an alami cord in the disabled tollet.

Flre alarms are situated in the lobby area and in the main hall, they are checked weekly by
Thatcham Town Council.
We carry out termly fire drills and keep a108 recording these drills as well as any delays,
issues or actions that need to be taken.
There are smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in the hall, lobby area, kitchen,
storage cupboard room

Staffing levels are kept in line with child adult ratio and where posslble, an extra member of
staff. In line with new safer recrultment and new le8islatlon, references and DBS checks will
be completed before the new member of staff is employed.
All exlsting staff have DBS certificates and references on file.
Volunteers, parents, and non staff on the premise5 are never left unsupervised. Only staff
may enter the toilet area. Parents wishin8 to take their child to the toilet in between
sessions are asked to use the disabled toilet.

Clair Mccartney continued to provide regular updates regarding bank balances, incomings
and out80ings.
The reserves account to maintain enough money to allow for redundancies and debts in the
event of the Preschool closing.
Unpaid invoices are bein8 followed up promptly to prevent parents becoming behind with
their bill. If invoices remain unpaid the child's place is revoked. If funded, thelr hours will be
reduced to their funded hours to prevent parents runnin8 up a bill they are unable to pay
and prevent a financial strain on the preschool. It is not vlable for Pre-school to effectively
provide free chlldcare.
6th January 2025 we came to Burdwood centre to find an Issue with the mechanlsm
on the front door. The mechanism had broken and there was a delay in getting a
locksmith to come. We had to make the decision to close for the morning as we felt
it would be a safeguarding Issue if we couldn't lock the front door properly. We
notlfied parents, telling them we would assess and update them throughout the day.
Due to the delay we was unable to open at all that day. The door was fixed before
the end of the day, making it safe to re-open the next day 7th January 2025.

8 January we had issues with the heatlng at Burdwood. We didn't feel we needed
to close but we notified the parents and asked them to make sure chlldren were
wearin8 plenty of layers.
