Viclorla Ho8pItsI and the Boumemouth Géneral Hospital. The Trustees 8r8 furthermore empowered to assist
persons with Chronlc Chest Dlseases in the managemenl of their condllion at home by the provision ol any
n8cessary servlce5 and equipment for the benefit of such persons"
Slncg the drawing up of th8 Deed, th8 Royal National Hospltal and the Royal Vlcloria Hospltals have closed, and
the Bournemouth General Hospital has been renamed 'The Royal Bournemoulh Hospital..
The Trustees identify proi6cls and organisalions (hey wish lo support and so the Trust does not make grants to
people or organl88tlons that apply speculatively. They believe that the public b8nefll requlremont Ss fully satisfied as
the support Is provided through Hospitals which are open lo all wllhin the catchm8nt ar8a cover6d by the Trust.

Th8 Irusloo8 have pald due regard to guldance 18sued by Ihe Charily Commi88lon In declding what activities Ihe
charity should undertake.
Grant m8klng policy
Proc&dure6 and pollcy for maklng grants
The Truslees normally meet iwice a year lo considei what grants they will make and lo review aiiy feedback they
have recoivgd. Nominations for 9ranls are elicited by formal and informal means. The formal means involves
Invitlng the Bournemouth and Poole Hospllal Management to submit grant requésts for developmonts that li6 within
the TrLtsl's obj8cls. Though the Trustee5 make som8 small grants wilh no formal appll¢alion, they normally ask
other organlsallons lo submll a formal appllcatlon s8ylng how the lunds would be used and whal would be
achleved.
The Trusl8es' policy, which is communicated lo all beneficiaries, is to commit to grants for a maximum of three
years. with no guarantee of funding beyond that period.
Achlevement8 and portormance

Grants towards various projects have been continued during the year from the Deslgnaled Funds, as detailed in
note 6 and 18 to the Accounts. It is the Trustees, policy lo ulillse the Trust income mainly for 5vch grants in futLire
years. Grants are made in order to Improve patient care wher8 Health Service fundlng Is not avallable. The Impact
of grants made is reviewed by the Trustees at each Trustee meetlng. and they are sallsfied Ihal signlflcant
improvements in patlènt car6 have been achieved.

The Trust's funds are all unrestricted, bul the Trusiees have designated funds for future projects separately. A
Iransler lo the designated funds amountin9 to £842,930 has been made in the year, representing a net incr6ase in
the commllmenls agre8d by the Trustees. Al the year-end th8 balance of doslgnalgd funds Stood at £1.758.065
{2023- £917.9501, as summarised in nole 17.
The overall result for th8 year Shows a surplus of £193,99412023 - defiGiI £128,114). Included In the surplus is an
unrealised profit on the rgvalualion of the Charities Property Fund of £52,46312023 - loss of £138,980) an(J an
unreali88d profit of £65.183 on the revalualion ol the Ralhbonos investment portfolio {2023 - loss of £84,866). The
108ing lund balance stood at £4,410,401,12023 - £4,216,407).

Investment pollcy
The Trus166s' Investment policy Is to invesl partly in commercial property with an abov6 8V6rage yield in order to
mainlaln income for Immediate use, and partly in a managed quoted portfolio to provide a balance between Income
and long t9mi growth. The Trus166s alm to relaln sufflcienl Ilquid funds on Immodlatè access 8nd short lerm
d8posSls to meet thelr future commllments.
Major rfsks
The Iruslees has assessed ihe major risks lo which the charity Is exposed. and are 381isfied th81 systems are In
place to mlllgate exposure lo the major rlsks.
The Trusloes annually revSew the risks that the charlty laces. To d81e these have malnly related lo Snveslmenl
managemeni and have b86n ameliorated by the sale of individual propertles and relnveslment of Ihe proceeds in
the Charitie8 Property Fund. Investments aro hold for the long8r lemi, and are designed lo provide Sufficient income
to 8nable th8 Trust lo carry out its objectives.
Plans for futuro perlods
The Trustees intend lo conllnue provlding grants In a slmi18r way lo the recent past continuing the ernphasis on
projects at Bournemoulh and Poo16 Hospitals and with local Primary Care Trusts, 8nd for training, but relalning
flexibility as to the timing, and scale of grant making.
It Is Ilk61y that wlthln Ihe foreseeable future, there will be 8 major bulldlng project at the Roy81 Bournemouth
Hospital, which will involve the Thoraclc Medicine Department. The Trustees would wish lo support the continuing
exo&llgnce of the Thoracic M6dicln8 Department and to Ihls end have deslgnal8d th8 8um of £1,500,000 to be held
In reserve towards any requests that may be agreed fof this purpose.
