Chair’s Report

Petts Wood Playgroup for Children with Special Needs AGM 25 September 2024

This past year has gone smoothly with little or no disruption to service provision especially during the time of renovations to the halls on the Church premises which were completed in the summer. I like to take this opportunity to thank all involved, in particular, Kate Copley and Nadene Snyman for their efforts in ensuring that our children, their families and our staff were not inconvenienced during this time.

Mrs. Ann Lockwood, our Vice Chair, has stepped down from her position as of today and is replaced by Graham Foster. The committee and I would like to thank Ann for her dedication and support to the committee over many years and her advice in matters relating to its work. Ann will continue as a regular committee member where her experience and expertise will be invaluable to us all. Thank you once again Ann, the entire committee and in particular I will continue to draw on your wisdom.

I am very pleased to announce that Holly Norris joined the committee in February 2024 as the Fund Raising Co-ordinator and will be working with Graham Foster to raise much needed funds for our charity. Holly, thank you for giving us your precious time.

Our grateful thanks to the Manager, Larry Simpson, the deputies, Janet Gloin and Carmela Girolamo for their hard work and giving up their valuable time to keep PWPG running smoothly over the past year. Also Kirsty Edwardes, the Funding Officer, who deals admirably well with matters relating to funding and its unique challenges, thank you Kirsty. The time devoted to getting this work done is much appreciated. Thank you to the mini bus drivers Diane, Mike and Keith, for their hard work and ensuring children are safely transported. Also it is with heartfelt gratitude that I wish to thank our volunteers who work with such devotion, giving their precious time helping to deliver an excellent service. The Leader’s report details the activities over the year. Because of the shortage of placements for our children on reaching school going age, moving them over is proving to be a challenge; this appears to be a problem nationally.

Once again our donors, fund raisers, sponsors and Friends of PWPG have come to our aid, especially during these economically challenging times. It is their generosity that is helping to keep funding going for our service. Thank you very much for all your help. At present, we are financially stable, as shown in the Treasurer’s report.

It’s time to say thank you again to the Churches and their representatives for their support and providing us with space to run our service.

Thank you to the Treasurer, Richard Clarke for his hard work and for keeping a firm grip on the finances, to Graham Foster, who has been our secretary over many years and has moved on to position of Vice Chair and to Sue Leonard, the Minutes’ Secretary who works tirelessly behind the scenes. Thank you to all our committee members for their support and time.

Last but not least, to all the parents and families of children attending PWPG for their continuing trust in our service.

Treasurer’s Report AGM 25 September 2024 Petts Wood Playgroup for Children with Special Needs

The Playgroup retains sufficient balances to support its operation through 2024/25. Our funding from Bromley has shown an upturn, but the general economic outlook continues to limit the ability of others to provide the voluntary income on which the Charity depends to keep its services accessible to all.

Hopefully the addition of a fundraiser to our team of volunteers can help drive income growth. The Playgroup’s costs have continued to rise through inflation, albeit without any need for significant new projects. However, these increases continue to press on our financial situation, and we remain grateful for the Church for hosting us and all those who make space in their finances to support our work through donation.

I have examined the Income and Expenditure Account and Balance Sheet of the Petts Wood Playgroup, which are in agreement with the books and vouchers of the Playgroup. In my opinion the Financial Statements give a true and fair view of the Playgroup’s affairs as at 31 August 2023, and of its income and Expenditure for the year ended.
