Leader’s Report AGM 29 September 2021 Petts Wood Playgroup for Children with Special Needs

An incredibly challenging yet exciting year has flown by since the last AGM. The impact of covid-19 made playgroup life difficult and so very hard for our families.

Our planned return to playgroup in January for the spring term got off to a dreadful start and further closure. Throughout the closure staff and families were regularly contacted using social media, newsletters and ‘phone to ensure they were not in need and to offer support,

Fortunately, staff training was current but acceptable ways of maintaining that standard are being looked at with reference to the resurgence of Covid-19. We managed to gain training to update 31 staff in First Aid and 23 in Paediatric First Aid in April the week before PWPG was able to open its doors again.

All the children had their developmental records updated and programmes of learning were shared. Playgroup continued as usual throughout these processes and multiagency meetings for some children were held many via Zoom, Teams, Cisco or similar. We had sixteen children due to start school in September 2021 all of whom needed completed Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) to ensure their individual needs would be met in appropriate educational settings. Apart from intensive assessments and reports, individual meetings to discuss the process were held. These would normally be followed by multi-agency transition meetings with the future school teacher to update any information and attempt to resolve any concerns. The meetings were held but consisted of the family, myself and the teacher for distancing purposes.

Playgroup extended the term by two weeks to endeavour to compensate for the forced closure in the spring. No safe summer scheme could be held because of the necessary inclusion of new staff and new children to the group. However, trips were competed for which I thank the staff, the Methodist Scouts for the loan of their minibus and our drivers which made it possible.

A new term and 18 new children, mostly with complex and severe clinical conditions, to join the 6 summer starters and the existing 4 children ensuring busy and fun times ahead.

Thank you to all the families for trusting us with their precious children, to all the staff and Committee for their unwavering support, to the Church for enabling us to provide this service on their premises and to those professionals who provide input and guidance regularly for our staff. The biggest thank you goes to all the children who make each morning so special.

Treasurer’s Report AGM 29 September 2021 Petts Wood Playgroup for Children with Special Needs

The year 2020/21 represented, if not normal, then at least something approaching routine for the Playgroup’s finances. We are once again thankful for the continuing support of our staff, volunteers, drivers, escorts, donors, friends and Bromley Council in supporting the Playgroup’s work through the year. Once again we were able to continue paying staff, drivers and escorts to support our children and remain in a sound place financially to achieve our charitable aims.

Like in 2019/20 we had no significant donations or legacies to bolster the coffers but did have the continued support of our friends and, increasingly, an ability to gain income from events that were suspended through the pandemic to help keep the charity running.

However, those larger donations in 2018/19 did enable us to undertake significant refurbishment and extension of the playgroup area, Some of that work continued inbetween lockdowns to enhance the area we provide for our children, and we continue to thank the Church for hosting us.

Looking ahead to 2021/22 we hope to see the return of many more supporters’ events to help support the charity and enable us to continue building on the sound financial footing established over many years.

I have examined the Income and Expenditure Account and Balance Sheet of the Petts Wood Playgroup, which are in agreement with the books and vouchers of the Playgroup. In my opinion the Financial Statements give a true and fair view of the Playgroup’s affairs as at 31 August 2021, and of its income and Expenditure for the year ended.
