Proposed Friends of Lydia Eva & Mincarlo
General Synopsis
Calling this "Friends of" is perhaps a little misleading as this will be a very much simpler part
of the organisation than it has been in the past. It may be better to call it something different
such as "Shipmates-.
The Intention is that we will have a small flyer type leaflet that can be popped into the little
guide that we hand out on the ships. This flyer plus a few words of encouragement from the
crew member handing it out, will offer people the opportunity to go onto the web site and
sign up to receive a quarterly newsletter and pay a modest sum of probably £IO.IXI. For this
they will get 4 newsletters a year plus any special news such as -Lydia will be in steam on
such and such a date". The newsletter will go out by email, probably uslng a market&ng
software program called mail diimp. I have set up the free version of this whith should Suit
our needs for the foreseeable future. If this were to really tske off we would need to
subscribe to it.
Getting this started is a bit awkward as we won't really start handing out the flyers until we
open the ships again in April, so at the fflofflent l affl thinking of the Ilrst fiewsletter goifig
out in May. followed by one in August, November and then in February, to complete the
year.
My thoughts at the moment are that each newsletter will have a section on each ship.
Typically. an update on what's been happenin& good news and bad, forthcoming activities
Other ideas for items are possibly an historical or technical bit, focusing on some aspert
linked to one of the ships. This might indude an explanakn to trawling or drifting, different
ways of processing herring.
Perhaps a "meet the crew- so if anyone has a special birthday or has completed a particular
milestone with the trust we can do a little featu￿.
There might also be a °situations vacant" bit rf we are looking for someone to do something
specific.
I have a lot to learn on how to use the mail chimp program for compiling the newsletter and
sending them out. Also how to keep track of who has paid, send out reminders for renewal
etc. 8ut I don't see anything that can't be overcome relatively easily. this is not unique.
I have had a little try at the compilation of a newsletter on Mail chimp and it seems OK.
My next step is to meet with the lady who does the web site. which should be in the next
week or two. With her help and input I should be able to come up with a process and get it
moving.

The only ¢ost tg the trust at this stage will be to get some flyer5 printed, Vista print look as
though they do IIX)O for £50. 50 once I get the process sorted I can. with the Trust's go
ahead get those printed.
This won't bring in big bucks but every little helps and who know what it could lead to.
As I get the han8 of it we may at some point be able to offer a corporate membership,
perhaps £50. some organisations have bronze. silver and gold supporters. maybe we can
progress to that. Perhaps in the second year when we have some numbers.
That's a bit down the road as yet. my aim is to learn how it all works. develop the process
and get it moving.
l am mindful of GDPR and I believe that the Mail Chimp software does look after some of
that aspect.
If anyone has any questions then feel free to contsct me.
And finally if the trust decides it does not want me to progress with this then please tell me
as soon as possible so that I don't waste too much of my time or anyone else's.

## **Treasurers report YE 31/3/2025**

**Once again another year comes around, and unfortunately the donations are once again well down. Although things looking better this is not because of donations etc. but because of a towards docking of the Lydia Eva by the Uren foundation.**

**When you look at the accounts you will see a increase on the previous year(2024), and this was due to the generous donation by the Uren foundation. Facilitated by Henry Cator MBE.**

**So Overall at 2024ye we had £2,468 profit for the year and for 2025ye we had £12,272 Loss. (Funded by our first emergency fund draw down £20k).**

**Another year on and we are still in need of Major funds, and if any of you have any ideas, then please bring them up at Any Other Business.**

**If things do not pick up funds wise we will be looking for a way of scrapping/gifting our ships to another charity. Sorry to say, The end is now within the next 3-4 years.**

**As mentioned before we have to be very careful with our expenditure on both vessels, seeking the best prices for anything purchased.**

**I would like to propose that EVERY expenditure more than £40 is run past the board, and that a proper budget is drawn up for each ship yearly, something that has been lacking since 2018.**

**Mark Waltham**

**Treasurer LE&MCT 08/11/25**

**—————————————————————————————————————————————**

**This is just for your interest and is not part of the official treasurer’s report for the AGM.**

## **WE ARE BROKE**

**After the dry docking of Mincarlo which has cost us £39k for docking plus another £9k for tugs, we have had to once again draw down on our Emergency fund. The remains of which will have been re-allocated to each boat.**

**The boats for 2025 year took in approximately (Lydia)£12k and (Mincarlo)8k, including any donations or grants from councils/companies. i.e. 20k total. Working out that docking is about £30k per ship (Minimum) every 5 years, that means as well as running the trust, paying insurance and generally keeping up painting and maintenance, with NO extra Steaming or Engine running we have to find about 15-6k per ship, per year to survive. Plus To keep Lydia in code costs us about another £8k per year for 1 extra docking and Boiler work’s, Coal is extra!**

**By the time all bills are paid this winter we will have just enough for next May’s Insurance payments, but NO other expenditure.**
