The object of the Charity is the provision or augmentation of the emolument of the Chaplain of St Edward’s Church or the defraying of expenses incurred by or on behalf of the said Chaplain in the performance of the duties of his/her office and in otherwise contributing to the maintenance of public worship.
The Trustees declare that there is no conflict of interests between themselves as individuals and their role as Trustees.
During the year the Trust paid a stipend to the Vicar-Chaplain, the Revd. Dr. Mark Scarlata and to the Assistant to the Vicar Chaplain, the Revd. Dr. Matthias Grebe, proportionate to the time worked.
The Trust’s funds, which are held in Trinity Hall Investment Funds, at 30/06/2025 total £2,359,517; all expenditure paid by the trust derive from the income yielded by these funds. We continue to match the stipend we award clergy to the Lichfield Pay Scale of the Church of England.
In addition to the remuneration paid to the clergy at St Edward’s, the Trustees used funds to pay ecclesiastical insurance to insure the clergy against indemnity.
Trustees were asked, during the year, to consider paying the cost of architects’ plans for accessible toilets for the Church. After lengthy consideration, we agreed to do so on the basis that we interpreted the charitable purposes of the Trust, which includes the rubric
‘maintenance of public worship’, to provide in principle for making worship accessible. Trustees were clear, however, that while this sets a precedent, it is one that remains restrained by our primary commitment to maintaining an endowment fund at a sufficient level to continue to pay the cost of clergy stipends and allowances.
