Group Scout Leader’s Report : 1st Ascot (All Saints) Scout Group, AGM 8th September 2022

I would like to welcome everyone to our annual general meeting, especially all the new parents to our group.

We have had another different but busy year within 1st Ascot (All Saints) Scout Group as we have all tried to get back to a normal form of Scouting.

I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you.

Due to the continued commitment and dedication from all of our leadership team 1st Ascot managed to offer exciting and varied programmes to all our young people in each of our sections. As well as completing training reqiured, risk assements and adapt meetings at short notice.

I would also like to thank the Group Executive Committee for the work they have put in ensuring the headquarters provides us a safe place to meet.

We value the support from all of our parents, Along with friends and our sponsor (All Saints Church Ascot) I would like to reinforce that this is your group and for us to continue to be successul into the future if anyone is able to help in any way as an occasional helper or as a member of the executive committee, please do not hesitate to speak to me or any other leaders at any time.

We were all pleased to celebrate getting back together with many of you joining in our family afternoon and our hoping to offer more whole family group activites soon.

So therefore as the quote goes…..

“If everyone is moving forward together then success takes care of itself”!

And this is what we would like for 1st Ascot All Saints Scout group over the coming year,

We are hoping with the help of the county to grow our Beaver colony, and have been able to offer places in sections to all those on the waiting list.

Thank you for Joining us this evening and I would like to nominate Sarah again to continue her role as Chairperson.

Committee Chairman’s Report

Scouts across the UK join the nation in mourning the loss of our beloved monarch and Patron, HM The Queen. Her outstanding example of service, encouragement and kindness was an inspiration to us all. We thank you all for joining us on this sad day.

The Scout movement believes in giving its members opportunities to take on new challenges and there have been plenty in the past year.

For nearly 100 years, the 1[st] Ascot Scout Group has been active in North Ascot with a close link to All Saints Church and is looking forward to celebrating its centenary in 2024. For the last 32 years, we’ve been very fortunate to have the use of a purpose built Scout Hut located in Rhododendron Walk opposite Ascot Heath School. However, we are now approaching the end of our lease and the building is starting to show its age. We are in discussions with the landlords to find a mutually acceptable way to extend our lease and make appropriate investment to enable us to continue to offer quality Scouting in our current location. This is one of our biggest challenges for the next few years.

Laura Wenham, our Group Scout Leader, together with our amazing Leaders and our dedicated Committee have continued to deliver the benefits of Scouting and those important “Skills for Life” to the young people of North Ascot. In achieving this, we are, as always, most grateful for the support we receive from the Church and to Chris Gunton and David Saunders who actively represents the Church as part of our Committee.

Please do contact us if you or someone you know would be interested in joining us, whether as a member of the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts or Explorers, or as an adult volunteer. If you want to work with young people directly or help behind the scenes, there’s something for everyone!
