Treasurer's Report —

For the period 1st August 2022 to 315 July 2023

This financial year has been very busy from a treasurer's perspective.

We have continued to hold our monthly meeting in the main hall at Bourne Hall which is now attracting on average 180 members each month. Although the hall has increased in price the committee feels that it is a good investment. The quality of our monthly speakers has been excellent and the cost has been in line with budget.

In May the committee held our first group leaders’ lunch since 2020 as a thank you for our group leaders. They changed the format for this event and did not book a speaker but used it as a networking event for group leaders to get to know each other and socialise.

The Third Age Trusts motion last year to increase our fees to them was defeated by a heavy margin of votes in October 2022. This was due to a strong resistance from a lot of u3a committees across the country, including Epsom and Ewell, who worked together for the benefit of u3a’s across the UK. The same group this year have submitted a motion to the trust to increase their marketing of the u3a brand. The Trust have also advised that they do not feel they will need to increase fees this year which has been welcomed by u3a's.

Our social events offering has been extremely busy as members have felt more comfortable with coach travel and meeting up. Our Coronation lunch was our subsidised event for the year when the committee agreed to fund the cost of the coaches for the event. There have been a few issues which have led to refunds and increased the workload which we are hoping to avoid for future events.

The committee also agreed to fund a birthday cake for the Singing for Pleasure group who celebrated their tenth birthday in June.

We are grateful to members who nominate us when they book holidays through Riviera Travel who pay a commission to the Third Age Trust which is passed on to our Epsom and Ewell u3a and is added to our social restricted funds.

The social figures this year reflect the fact that we have quite a few events planned for the end of the year which members have already paid for and which our suppliers will be submitting invoices for in the next few weeks. This figure appears on the balance sheet as Creditors — amount falling due within one year.

Our u3a remains in a good financial position.
