gains or 10sse8 relating to instrument5 as these have been presented on a group basis in the notes to the
accounts.
The Governors have consld¢red the School's cath position, sources of income. fund$ available to the School
and planned expenditure, and modelled several scenario$ and stress tests including the current global political
situation, the rising cost of living. and the addition of VAT to independenr school fees from January 2025.
These scenarios con3ider reduced pupil number$. delayed fee payment, increased business rates and potential
bad debts as well a$ Impact on eosts from the rneasures taken so far and mitigauoni that might be taken In
future. Sensitivity around these assumption$ has also been considered in their forecasting. Results of this eash
tlow and sensitivity an•lysis indicate that thc cash reserves of the charity are adequate to meet the charity's
obligations as they fall due. Additionally, despite the wider uncertainty in the economy, the strength of the
School'5 balanee sh¢et Is such that the Governors consider there ts no material uncertainty over the School's
rinancial viability. Having regard to the above, the Governors believe it appropriate to adopt the going
concern basis ofacci)unting in prepartng the financial statements.
The functional currency of the School li con$idered to be GBP beuuse th*t is the currency of the prlmary
economic environment in which the School operate$.
Critical aceounting judgements and key •ourcu of ejtimation uncertainty
In the application of the charity's •ccounting polielu, whl¢h are described in the note below, Trustees are
required to make jUd￿mentS, e$timates, assumptions about the carryj'ng value$ of assets and liabilities that
are not readily appareni from other sources. The estimate5 •nd underlying assumptions are based on historical
experience and other factors that are considered to be relevant. Actual rewlts may dilTer frojn these
c￿lmates.
The estimates and underlying assumptions are reviewed on an on-going basis. Revision5 to 4ccounting
estimates are recognised in the period in which the estimate is revised Ifthe revision affects only that period,
or In the period of the revision •nd future periods ifthe revision alTects the current and futsire periods. In the
view of the Trustee8, no assumptions concerning the futyjre or estimation uncertainty alTecting asse¢S and
liabilities at the balance sheet date are likely to result in a material adI￿stMent to their carrying amounts in
the next financial year.

The Pensions Tru8t- The Growth Plan
The company participates in the scheme, a multi.ernployer scheme whieh provide$ benefits to some 638
non-associated participating employers. The scheme is a defined benefit scheme ID the UK. It is not
possible for the Company to obtain sutricient inforniation ro enable it to aeeount for the scheme as a
defined benefit schem¢. Therefore, it accounts for the scheme as a defined contribution scheme.
The scheme is subject to the (unding legislation outlined in the Pensions Act 2004 which came in¢0 force
on 30 December 2005. This, together with document$ issued by the Pensions Regulator and Technical
Actuarial Standards issued by the Finan¢ial Reporting Cowicil, set out the framework for funding defjned
benefit occupational ￿nSIOn schemes in the Uk.
Th¢ scheme 15 cla￿lfied as a 'last-man standing arrangement,. Therefore. the company is potentially liable
for other partlcipating employers, obligations if those employers are unable to meet their share of the
scheme deficit following withdrawal from the scheme. Participating employers are legally requir¢d to
meet their share of the scheme deficit on an annuity purchase basis on withdrawal from the scheme.
A full actuarial valuation for the scheme was carrled out ar 30 September 2020. This valuation Showed
assets of£800.3m, liabiliues of £831.9m and a deficit of£31.6m.

deficit reduction contributions payable under the agreement that relates to the deficit. The present value
is calculated using the discount rate detailed in the$¢ disclosures. The unwinding ol the discount rate is
