Auditor's responsibAlities for the audit of the financial statements
Our objectives are to obtain reasonable assurance abnut whether the Rnancial statements as a whole are free
From material mis5tatcment, whether du¢ to fraud or error, and to i$we an auditor $ re￿rt that irldudcs our
opiwon. Reasonable assurance is a high level OF as$urance, bul is not a ￿araTrtee that an audit conducted in

from fraud or error and are considered material IF, in&viauaUy or in the awegate, they could reasonably be

Details of the extent to which the audit was cOn￿atred capable of detecting irregularities, induding fraud

Extent to which the audit wa5 considered capable ofdeterting irregularities, including fraud
Irregularities. ineluding fraud. are instan￿9 of non.compliance with laws and regulations. We identified and
asse&8ed the rR5ks of material misstatement of the financiaj statements from irregularities, whethe.r due to
fraud or errvr, and discussed thele hetweeti our audit te*m members. We then designed ind perforn)ed audit
Yocedures re¥onsiveto those ri8k8, including obtsinAng audit esrydence 5Ut5cientand appropriate to provide
a basis for our opinion.
We obtained an understanding o( the legal and regulatory frameworks within wbich the charitsble company
and operates, Focusing on those laws and regulations that havc a direct eETect on the deterrnination of
material amounts And disc105urcs in the finanoal statements. The law5 and regujations we considered in this
context were the Comwe5 Aci 2(K16, tsxation legslation, togetber with the Charities SORP {FRS 102}.
We assessed the Tequired compliance wlth these laws and regulations as part of our audit procedure5 on the
related fmaThLial statement items.
In addition, we considered proYision$ OF other laws and regulation5 that do nol. have a direct effect on the
financial statejnents. but compliance which might be funknental to the charitable company'% ina the
oup's ability to operate or to avold a material Fnalty. We also considered the oPporti￿RtieS and incentives
that may exist ivithin the chayitsble comwy andthe wup for fraud. The laws andregulations we consi(iered
in this context for the UK operations were The Education (Independent School Standards) Regulation5 2014.
Au&ting 5taThdar& limit the required audit procedures to iden

We identified the ￿eatest risk of material impart on the financial statements from irregthities, induding

Opinion (Continued)
Owing to the itiherent limitations of an au&t, there 15 an unavoidable risk that we may not haye detected
some material misstatements in the financial statements, even though we have properly planned and
perfom]ed our audit in accordance with auditing standards. For Lxample, the further removed non.
compliance hw$ and regulations (irregularities) is from the events and transactions rellected in the
financial statements. the less likdy the iEtherently limited procedures required by auditll]g standards would
identsfy it. In addition, as wrth any au&'t, there runained a higher Tisk oFnnn-detection of irregularities, as
these may involve collu￿0￿. forgery> inte.ntional omissions, misrepresentations. or the override nf internal
controls. We are not re5ponsibEe for preventing non-compliance and cannot bc wected to detect non-
comp]iance with all law5 and regulations.

review by the Government Aetuary. Following the public consultation, the Governtllent have accepted
three key proposa15 recomllLended by the GOvern￿ent ActWy>and are aiming to implement these
changes in time for the 2020 valuations.
In view of the above ndings and decisions the assumptions used in the 31 March 2016 Actuarial Valuation
