## **Objec�ves and Ac�vi�es** 

## **Purposes of the Longchen Founda�on** 

The purposes of the Longchen Founda�on as stated in its Trust Deed: 

- a)  To advance the study and prac�ce of the religion of Buddhism according to all tradi�ons of Buddhism and par�cularly the Maha-A� tradi�on. 

- b)  To advance the religion of Buddhism through the work of the Ven. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and the Ven. Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and their successors as representa�ves of the Maha-A� tradi�on. 

## **Public Benefit** 

The Trustees confirm that they have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. The Longchen Founda�on provides public benefit by suppor�ng the work of Rigdzin Shikpo Rinpoche the successor of the Ven. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and the Ven. Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche as representa�ve of the Maha-A� (Dzogchen) tradi�on. Rigdzin Shikpo developed many the innova�ve courses which make Buddhism in general and the Maha-A� (Dzogchen) tradi�on in par�cular more accessible to Westerners. These courses are now provided by the Longchen Founda�on.

## **Achievements and Performance** 

The Trust’s Dharma Director, Rigdzin Shikpo Rinpoche, died suddenly on  the 28th April 2023.  Consequently, a major focus for the  remainder of the year was pu�ng systems in place to ensure the preserva�on of his teachings as a living Buddhist tradi�on. Measures which were implemented include: 

- The Trustees appointed Sally Sheldrake as Dharma Director. 

- Significant progress was made concerning the se�ng-up of a new Longchen Founda�on Teacher’s College. 

The Trust con�nued an ac�ve teaching programme: 

Teachings Open to the Public: 

   - Heart of Buddha Teaching Day - ‘ _Beyond Birth and Death_ ’  - By Francesca Fremantle 

   - Oxford and London local group courses on various Path of Freedom(POF) course topics. 

- Further Development Teachings for Current Students: 

   - The Lion’s Roar - Gate 3 Weekend - July ‘23 

   - The Lion’s Roar - Gate 4 Weekend - Jan ‘24 

   - The Lion’s Roar - Gate 6 Weekend - May ‘23 

   - The Lion’s Roar - Gate 7 Weekend - Nov ‘23 

   - The Lion’s Roar - Year 1 (Gates 1 to 3) Retreat -  Nov ‘23

## **Financial Review** 

## **Receipts & Payments Overview** 

- The majority of the Trust’s net receipts for the year were from Dona�ons (73%) and Teaching & Retreats (25%). 

- The majority (81%) of the Trust’s net payments for the year were associated with running and maintaining its Oxford premises, which serves both as its administra�on centre and as the residence of its Dharma Director. Other significant net payments were: Dona�ons to Rigdzin Shikpo Rinpoche and also to Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche’s Nunnery Project (5% total), Longchen’s Library & Archive (5%) and Adver�sing (4%). 

## **End of Year Financial Posi�on** 

On the 5[ th ] of April 2024, the total cash held was  £88,166 and total liabili�es 

- were £35,000, which consists of one interest free long term loan. 

## **Reserve Policy** 

The Trustees are aware of the need to maintain sufficient reserves as a con�ngency against an unexpected drop in receipts or an unexpected increase 

in required payments.

The appointment of a new Trustee is made by the following procedure: 

1.  New Trustees are appointed by a majority of the Trustees present and vo�ng at a Trustee's mee�ng. 

2.  The appointment needs to be recorded by a memorandum signed by the person presiding at such a mee�ng. 

3.  The appointment takes effect when the new Trustee then signs this 

   - memorandum.

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
